Are you an experienced learning support assistant looking for an exciting new opportunity in a fantastic primary school on the Wirral? Do you have experience of supporting teaching and learning - and look to make a difference to the students in your care? If you are looking for full-time role, then New Directions would like to speak with you.

We are currently looking for a learning support assistant to support a student on a 1:1 basis in a wonderful school based in Birkenhead. To be considered for this role it is crucial you have experience in behavioural support. However, we will also accept applicants with a Healthcare, Social Care or Care Worker background.

Responsibilities of the role included but are not limited to:

  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Be able to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Be encouraging and supportive.
  • Have a positive attitude towards teaching and aiding children's development.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the student.

Job Specification:

  • Supervise and provide learning support for the student
  • Assist with the development of individual education and behavioural plans setting challenging expectations for pupils to achieve learning goals.
  • Establish trusting relationships with the pupil and interact with them according to individual needs and personality.
  • Encourage the student to interact with the class and engage in activities.

Person Specification

  • Be outgoing, fun and engaging
  • Willing to support children of all abilities and needs
  • Have experience of behaviour management and de-escalation
  • Have a positive and ambitious attitude to learning

Teaching or classroom assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools.

We specialise in recruiting teaching assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following;

  • NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
  • NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
  • CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
  • BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing)

We'll also consider experienced learning support assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.

As a teaching assistant you'll be expected to:

  • Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
  • Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
  • Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills
