Acute Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist - Band 6 AfC
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12 month fixed term Band 6 Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our nursing team within our established Acute Oncology Service (AOS) at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. We would like hear from nurses who may have experience in oncology and interested in pursuing a career in cancer nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Practitioner

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have the relevant qualifications in nursing and cancer care and be a dynamic individual with the ability to motivate and influence others. They must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a specialist team and ensure that the patient care is at the absolute core of every decision.
This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced cancer nurses demonstrating advanced practice and non-medical prescribing. We are consistently working as a multi-professional team to continually develop our world class Acute Oncology Service for patients at GSTT and throughout South East London. The service triages and treats acutely unwell cancer patients, who have recently received cancer treatment and those presenting with acute oncology emergencies.
The role is on a 24/7 rota, covering a small number of remote working nights and onsite weekend days per month.

The Oncology Directorate covers a range of specialties' including inpatients, chemotherapy day unit, radiotherapy and outpatientsand the role will include working with our Clinical Nurse Specialists & Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The service is across 2 sites; Guys Cancer centre and the Cancer centre at Queen Mary's, Sidcup.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be given the opportunity to care for patients experiencing complications of their cancer diagnosis or treatment in an acute setting. It is a varied role, which will involve working in the Acute Oncology Assessment Unit, based in Guy's Cancer Centre, assessing unwell patients, supporting the telephone triage service and working within the AOS Service at St Thomas Hospital. Previous experience of SACT delivery and awareness of the UKONs triage tool is desirable alongside an essential high level of communication.
