Job summary

A very exciting opportunity has arisen for aspecialist physiotherapist to work within the medical therapy team at Airedale General Hospital.

The post holder will lead in the advanced assessment and treatment of a wide range of Frail and medical patients within the speciality who may have complex presentations. There will also be some community outreach work within this role as part of our new H-Fast service.

As a band 6 Physiotherapist, this post would provide you with the opportunity to consolidate and develop your knowledge and skills while gaining valuable experience in a variety of settings. The post would allow you to develop your clinical, leadership and managerial skills, plus be involved in innovative audit and service development projects within the team. The post would also provide opportunities to supervise and develop junior Physiotherapists and students in addition to therapy assistants.

Main duties of the job

oTo undertake a supporting role to the Team Leader; managing, planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating the therapy services provided to elderly and medical patients on the acute medical wards. oTo provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to facilitate safe and timely hospital discharges. oTo act as a source of expertise and provide an advisory service to other AGH therapists and members of the MDT in the management of elderly and medical patients. oTo lead in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have complex and chronic presentations, and determine clinical diagnosis and any therapy treatment indicated, and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner. oTo provide expert training and education for all grades of staff and other health professionals in the therapeutic management of orthopaedic patients. oTo deputise for the Team Leader when requested. oProvide effective student training and development.

Qualifications

Essential

Degree or equivalent pre-registration award in Physiotherapy State registrations with the Health Care Professions Council Completion of course in Professional Practice education

Desirable

Leadership courses Member of relevant Professional special interest groups/organisations

Experience

Essential

Relevant and recent experience working at band 5 level including 12 months in acute ward work. Experience of guideline development or audit. Experience of multidisciplinary team working and working collaboratively with other professions and agencies including statutory, private and voluntary sector services Experience of clinical supervision both as supervisee and supervisor Recent experience of student training.

Desirable

Experience at Band 6 level Experience in frailty assessments and treatments.

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge and clinical reasoning skills to support advanced clinical practice in adult medicine and frailty. Knowledge of the roles of other professionals and the principles of partnership working Knowledge of clinical standards and ability to implement and audit these in the team Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance, Knowledge to promote and support equality and value diversity Knowledge of the NHS constitution

Desirable

Knowledge of relevant national and local legislation relevant to adult medicine and frailty. Specialist knowledge and clinical reasoning skills to support expert clinical practice in adult medicine and frailty.
