Applications are invited for a 6-months fixed term Consultant in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. This post is based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage and comprises 10 programmed activities (PAs) with an on-call commitment.

This is an excellent opportunity within the Plastic Surgery department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.

The Trust has a comprehensive programme of leadership mentoring available for newly qualified Consultants. Opportunities are also available to other Consultant appointees to play an active part in the programme.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be expected to cover clinical sessions specified in the provisional job plan, as below. The appointee will join a team of eight consultants, three specialty doctors and a full complement of junior and support staff. The ability to work closely and flexibly with colleagues including consultants, junior staff and management team is an essential requirement for this appointment.

Job responsibilities

To provide a general plastic surgery service with a specialistinterest in Hand Surgery, Peripheral Nerve and BrachialPlexus surgery and Limb Reconstruction (includingmicrosurgery) as well as on call service To provide a comprehensive service utilising a wide range of reconstruction procedures. To participate in the departments teaching, audit, research and educational activities. Maintenance of high-quality patient cantered care. Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary servic Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity Active participation in continuing medical education

Person Specification

Qualifications / Training

Essential

Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practice FRCS (Plast) or qualification of an equivalent level

Desirable

Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)

Previous Experience

Essential

Broad range of experience in Plastic Surgery Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice

Skills

Essential

Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors. Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
