Job summary

We are looking for a hardworking and self-motivated individual to join our friendly nuclear medicine team.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides more than 37 specialities to million patients across Teesside, North Yorkshire, and beyond. The Nuclear Medicine Service performs a diverse range of nuclear medicine imaging procedures, reflecting these specialist services. We currently operate a SPECT/CT system and a gamma camera. This includes tumour imaging for oncology, renal, lymphatic and endocrine imaging, nuclear cardiology, paediatric investigations, and neurology scans. Non-imaging GFR procedures are also undertaken to inform chemotherapy prescribing and for the assessment of live kidney donors.

The department also operates a molecular radiotherapy service, including radioiodine treatment for thyroid cancer and benign hyperthyroidism and radium-223 for prostate cancer bone metastasis. This is a rapidly developing area, and it is anticipated that these services will be expanded at James Cook as new treatments are developed and approved.

Diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals are manufactured in our own radiopharmacy facility, with all the technologists participating in this on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

In this post you will be expected to become fully competent in imaging, non-imaging, radiopharmacy and therapy procedures, and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills with colleagues, patients and carers including those who are distressed and/or seriously ill.

The successful candidate would ideally be an experienced Nuclear Medicine Technologist on the RCT or a HCPC registered Radiographer with postgraduate nuclear medicine training. Applications are also invited from individuals who do not yet meet these criteria, who have a relevant scientific/healthcare background. In this instance training will be provided both in the department and the successful candidate will also be expected to complete an appropriate postgraduate training course. In this instance the post will be offered at Annex 21 of Band 6 until completion of training.
