Job Summary

The marine operations team assists in ensuring the safe movement and handling of vessels into and out of the port. As a VTS Officer Apprentice, you will work as a member of the marine operations team and will be involved in the safe and efficient movement of vessels primarily, whilst also gaining an appreciation of port operations including environmental protection, statutory compliance and operation of port vessel unit within the Harbours jurisdiction.

This is a highly responsible position with a key contribution to the safe and efficient operation of the harbour. The role will involve shift working and working in all environments.

The job holder will complete the Port Marine Operations Officer Apprenticeship Level 4 Standard, and associated qualifications.

This position is to commence in September 2024, with an expected duration of 24 months.

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent Grades 4, or above to include Maths and English

• Have a genuine interest in and a background within Marine

• Good oral and written communication skills

• Computer literate in Microsoft Office 365

• Excellent customer service skills

• Demonstrate the ability to communicate proficiently in the English language for the purpose of safe and effective use of VHF radio, covering routine and safety critical communications.

• Ideally live within easy reach of Dover or have means of transport
