It is the largest of the 3 sites providing specialist services for thewhole of Worcestershire including stroke services, cardiac stenting andoncology. The Alex Hospital at Redditch opened in 1985 and supports electivesurgery especially in orthopaedics. This is an exciting time to join the teamas services expand and we look to develop our teams in CT, Cardiac andIntervention.

We offer a comprehensive range ofservices in all areas of general radiography including NM, CT, MRI,Intervention, cardiac angiography and dexa. Our CT scanners across the countyhave all been replaced within the last couple of years with current state ofthe art technology.

We are a forward-looking departmentcommitted to training and role development. We have advanced practicefluoroscopy radiographers and a large team of reporting radiographers led by aConsultant radiographer.

We are looking for enthusiastic radiographerswith a flexible approach to delivering radiography services ideally withexperience in CT, Cardiac or Intervention however we can also provide a fulltraining programme if required.

Applicants should be motivated and ableto demonstrate that you have the necessary drive and purpose required tosucceed whilst maintaining your own professional standing.

You will be required to work flexibly; we have afully shifted 7-day rota with out of hours.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6Radiographer at WHAT there is an expectation that you will use your experienceand knowledge to support both staff and service users where appropriate. Thisalso includes any modality Leads and site leads. You will be expected to

Maintain Clinicalskills

Support the departmentin delivering continuous high quality care.

Have developed substantial postgraduate knowledge. Be ableto take day-to-day responsibility when necessary for the area in which they areworking.

Provide supervision, support and education to qualified andunqualified staff.

Support the effective management and leadership of requiredservices which will include organising workload, staffing and stock control.

Ensure operational standards are met to maintain effectiveservice delivery.

Demonstrate effective communication with all staff.

Support in the ongoing development of clinical practice andstandards of care.

Contribute towards service development and undertakeclinical audit activity within specialist services as required.

Demonstrate specialist knowledge and expertise supportingin the delivery of complex imaging techniques.

As a senior clinical member of staff and as such willfulfil the requirements of their role within the imaging team by demonstratingspecialist knowledge and expertise and by having responsibility within theirgiven area. The Radiographer will be able to recognise limitations in whichthey should consult their senior.

Job responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Clinical and Service Provision

To work independently as aRadiographer to a high professional standard and performing a wide variety ofexaminations within protocol, ensuring patient safety and providing assistanceand guidance to qualified and unqualified staff in order to maintain thesestandards.

Effectively liaise withmulti-disciplinary colleagues, patient and carers as required.

Triage referrals from a variety ofsources/manage clinical priorities according to agreed protocols, workingpractices and KPIs.

Work autonomously to the standardset by the Directorate delivering individualised direct patient care.

Can work within a team and whererequired lead a small speciality team in order to deliver effective directpatient care, managing workflow and prioritisingpatients.

Maintain up to date clinical competence and thehighest professional standards.

Practice within a risk benefit framework,having regard to the Biological effects of Radiation and IRMER Legislationwhere appropriate.

Ensureadherence to the pause and check and where required ensure that all generatedimages are appropriately and correctly labelled in line with trustrequirements,

Where appropriate escalate imagefindings and where necessary carry out additional or adaptation of imaging.

Where there is a requirement, supplyadminister medicines within the legal framework and associated PGD.

Provide a seamless high qualityservice from referral through to justification, authorisation, imaging andintervention.

Use professional judgement to act asan advocate for the patient to ensure a patient focused approach to thedelivery of care. Support and enable patients and carers to make informeddecisions related to their examination, intervention and management.

Escalate any concerns via theradiographic / professional structure as required.

To ensure the agreed qualitystandards for imaging services are met in accordance with local and nationalKPIs as required.

Report and raise concerns related tosafeguarding, accessing advice and support as required, being conversant withtrust policies for safeguarding including the assessment of mental capacity andconsideration of deprivation of liberty and the application of the principlesof PREVENT(counter terrorism awareness)

Ensure effective and accurate verbalor written handover of patients between health care professionals.

Ensure that high standards of alldocumentation are maintained with accurate complete and up to date informationregarding patient care and are kept in accordance with trust and directoratestandards and processes.

Support the quality and standards ofcare provided by the team in clinical areas. Escalate any concerns to theappropriate line manager.

To work within the HCPC standards ofproficiency for Radiographers and standards of conduct, performance and ethics.

Where required participate inrosters that incorporate extended 7 day working and work on different sites inaccordance with service needs.

Ensure that all equipment belongingto, and within radiology is operating safely. Report and stop the use ofequipment where there is any risk to the patent, staff or itself.

Report and defects malfunctions orfaults to the appropriate manufacturer. Record all actions taken with respectto such equipment and notify your line manager or site lead of actions taken.

Ensure the maintenance of safe,clean and tidy working environments, particularly the adherence of infectioncontrol procedures and promote and ensure the same among all staff.

Expected to participate in roleexpansion where required.

Demonstrate a flexible approachtowards the hours and days of work, will participate in work and duties asrequired relevant to both the directorate and wider hospital.

To participate in any out of hoursrota already established or established in the future.

Can where required undertakevenepuncture and IV cannulation for administration of contrast media, IV flushand other maned medicines pertinent to departmental examination protocols inaccordance with relevant PGD To deputise in the absence of the modality lead/deputy

Take appropriate action to ensurethe safety of patients and others. To report any accidents/incidents to asenior member of staff and on the DATIX system

To play an active role in clinicalgovernance and demonstrate through everyday practice.

Be a RPS (with training) asrequired.

Professional Leadership

Support on the implementation andtraining of new techniques and equipment whilst ensuring that consistentcompetencies are achieved, signed off and documented in the appropriate way.

Support where required to ensureappropriate staffing of an area, liaising with other areas of the department toensure safe staffing levels are maintained. To support with organising coverfor both in and out of hours shifts when unavoidable absence occurs atshort notice etc.,

To escalate issues arising thatimpacts on service delivery to the modality leads and service managers.

To support with risk assessmentsassociated with service provision or changes in practice.

Where relevant, observe and ensureadherence to IRR and IRMER in accordance with trust policies, procedures andlocal rules.

Where appropriate ensure theradiation safety of all individuals, in relevant working environments inaccordance with the current IRR

When entitled to do so by theemployer, undertake practitioner and operator roles within current IRMER andall amendments as appropriate to professional practice.

Promote team working, build rapportand collaborative working practices with multi-disciplinary teams. Liaise withinter hospital departments and personnel across organisational and professionalgroups. Ensure effective communication and interpersonal skills with other disciplinesand organisations.

Act as a clinical role modeldemonstrating high standards of clinical practice and provide support andadvice to other staff when necessary.

Participate in supporting staff oninduction and training with regards to competency sign off.

Education

Maintain skill in all areas of the trusts mandatory trainingby attending lectures and training sessions on manual handling, adult andpaediatric resuscitation fire and security and data

To participate in the training of others with regard toinduction, orientation and continuous education of Radiographers, Radiologyassistants, Assistant practitioners and student.

Promote and develop a positive learning environmentthroughout the trust. Act as a mentor and assessor to staff members andstudents as required, providing educational advice and support.

Undertake annual appraisal and personal development plansfor staff within the team as required.

Where required, provide staff training in equipment andconsumable products associated with the care and treatment of patients,ensuring they are educated to understand the correct method of clinicalassessment before using such items with patients. Provide support and guidanceto all levels of departmental staff in all levels of their clinical role. Ensurethat pre-registered students receive appropriate learning experience whilstallocated to the team.

To attend professional training/development courses asappropriate to maintain own specialist knowledge and provide appropriatefeedback. Maintain a personal CDP portfolio containing reflective practice andevidence of personal development in line with HCPC standards.

To be responsible for own registration with the HCPC.

To identify to your manager any known limitations withinyour professional competence.

Audit and Research

Participate in audit or researchprojects as required to ensure best practice.

Assistin the test and evaluation of new equipment within the clinical area.

Quality and safety

Ensure compliance with trustmandatory training modules remains above 95% at all times.

To participate in Quality assurancewithin the department and quality audits

Participate in quality governance,observing at meetings as required, being involved in any quality improvementinitiatives and ensuring all quality governance updates are read and adheredto.

Ensure patient safety by escalatingany risks with clinical staffing or service provision to your lead.

Report any quality and safety issuesimmediately to quality and safety lead, modality lead Radiographer or Head ofimaging.

May be deployed to work in any partof the directorate/organisation should the need arise to ensure patient safetyis maintained.

Comply with latest IRMER and IRRrequirements as well as the associated WHAT local rules. (in accordance withcurrent IRMER regulations) and all safety procedures in place for MRI whereapplicable.

Where required, measure quantitiesof Radioactivity with precision and calculate adjustments to compensate forRadioactive decay.

Ensure appropriate decontaminationprocedures are in place and undertaken. (Nuclear Medicine)

Safely and efficiently manipulateall medical equipment within the post holders are of expertise associated withthe imaging and care of patients.

Employees must, at all times carryout duties and responsibilities with due regard to the trusts equalopportunities policy.

Maintain stock levels within the clinical area andcompliance with stock rotation records.
