Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced Lead Nurse to apply for a post within the Substance misuse team for young people with complex mental health needs.

The post holder carries continuing responsibility for their team and will provide clinical leadership and operational management to the Forward Thinking Birmingham - Substance misuse team to:

Ensure safe and effective clinical practice

Enhance the children and young people's experience of care

Manage and develop the performance of the team

Contribute to the delivery of the Trust objectives

To work in partnership with Aquarius with Young people 0-18yrs who are experiencing mental health difficulties

You will work collaboratively with multi-agency services and other stakeholders to plan, develop, implement and evaluate services available to people with such complex needs.

Main duties of the job

Recruitment / work force planning.

Contribute to building external stakeholder relationships aligned with the Substance misuse

The post holder will lead regular clinical supervision, appraisal and performance of the staff within the team.

The lead nurse will provide advice and support to other professions and colleagues within the substance misuse team.

The lead nurse will provide leadership and clinical expertise to the team, enabling the team to deliver a comprehensive mental health service and improve outcomes to young people with substance misuse

The lead nurse will engage with Aquarius and partner agencies

The lead nurse will also ensure training and evidence-based guidance's provided to the wider mental health teams to deliver effective interventions.

Knowledge

Essential

Working knowledge of mental health. Knowledge of how to undertake complex assessments with young people A good knowledge of own professional guidelines. Good knowledge of complex trauma and trauma informed care. Understanding of a range of communication styles when working with children, young people, young adults and families in distress. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act. Knowledge of use of PowerPoint's and excel to contribute to audits and showcase delivery of services. Ability to challenge poor behaviour. Role modelling good behaviour and able to regulate own emotions within highly charged environments. A positive attitude and able to act on feedback. Ability to praise and be supportive to others that you work with. Appropriate and adaptable verbal and written communication. An experienced NMP

Experience managing a team/service

Essential

History of band 8 managing a team. Appropriate level of Community Mental Health Teams experience at band 8. Managing services with children and young people Working in a multi-disciplinary team and leading teams through change. Delivering teaching / training to staff on working with patients in a crisis Providing consultation to staff teams. Liaison with external stakeholders Experience of supervising other staff. Experience of leadership in teams. Knowledge, skills and experience of multi-agency working. Experience of working within complex organisations/systems.

Desirable
