Cheltenham, United Kingdom Kohler Co. Full time
Electronics Engineer - New Product Development  Hybrid-Cheltenham.
Salary up to £55K subject to skills & experience, plus a fantastic benefits package including a company bonus
Kohler Mira Ltd is a successful multi brand organisation that has grown significantly over 100 years and has always innovatively led the way in showering technology. Kohler Co., our parent company since 2001 and themselves in their 150th year, employs over 30,000 associates worldwide and is a global leader in the manufacture of kitchen & bath products, hospitality and an operator of golf and resort destinations. Mira Showers is one of the best known, market leading UK brands of showering products, continuously developing innovative new domestic bathroom products for all types of plumbing systems. Our Rada Controls brand brings that same innovation and cutting-edge design to commercial washroom environments such as sports and leisure facilities, medical facilities and institutions with products specifically designed for commercial and public buildings. From day one, you’re part of the Kohler Mira community – a collaborative, forward focused team with a shared pride in our work and commitment to delight our customers, develop innovative products and services and inspire our customers (who knew a bathroom manufacturing company did all this?)  WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR  We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Electronics Engineer to join our New Product Development Electronics team where you’ll be researching and creating exciting new innovative technologies and developing them into finished, volume products for launch into both UK and foreign markets.  ABOUT THE ROLE  Your primary objective will be to work alongside your project team and other Electronics Engineers to contribute towards transitioning early development concepts into more advanced prototypes and ultimately a volume manufactured product. You’ll succeed with this by working through our robust, structured design-gate process to ensure that the final design is delivered on-time, on-cost at high quality.  In addition to the new product designs, there will also be opportunities to provide engineering and technical guidance to our product support and manufacturing teams. Even after a product launch, we continue our drive to improve first time build rates, warranty levels and product cost/quality through hardware design changes for easier manufacture, alternative component sourcing to ease supply chain constraints and analysing and fixing product software bugs reported through our field service and contact centre teams. You’ll be developing hardware circuit designs from both first principles as well as ‘tried-and-tested’ designs, capturing your circuit in ECAD and transitioning it into a physical PCB design, working alongside mechanical engineers to ensure the design is right first time.  You’ll also be developing the embedded software that will be loaded onto the product to ensure a polished and delightful customer experience with our product in addition to creating bespoke software deliverables for product compliance and development/endurance testing.  There are many opportunities to grow your career at Kohler Co. You’ll be provided with support with developing a robust personal and technical development plan, mentoring from more senior team members and the opportunity for pursuing sponsored, formal accreditation such as Chartered Engineer status if desired.  The position reports into the Electronics and Connected Products Programme Manager and sits within a multi-disciplinary team blending other business functions including mechanical engineering, manufacturing, marketing, product compliance, customer services, industrial design and external suppliers.  ABOUT YOU  You will be actively contributing to the next generation of products and technologies for Kohler Co. For this you will need to be curious and tenacious individual with a drive to experiment and develop the next generation of showering and bathing experiences.  Key requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Electronics discipline.  2-4 years of industry experience in a similar Electronics industry role.  Experience with interpreting and defining system requirements.  Highly motivated and proactive with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong collaboration skills with an innovative approach to problem solving.  A can-do attitude with a willingness and desire to learn and develop both technical and soft skills.  A good understanding of developing real-time embedded software for 8/16/32-bit microcontrollers and ‘bare metal’ programming (ST/Atmel/Microchip).  Proficient with Embedded C and object-oriented design (C++/Python) using an industry standard IDE.  Experience of circuit design and PCB layout including EMC design considerations (OrCAD or Altium preferred).  Experience creating supporting technical documentation and using version control.  Experience in both hardware and firmware validation.  Familiarity with development and lab tools such as: oscilloscopes, emulators, debuggers, logic analysers, etc.  Knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART.  Desirable requirements:  Experience of working within a structured engineering design team.  An appreciation of the design of electro-mechanical products/mechanisms. A basic understanding of sensing technologies, DSP and control theory.  An understanding and working knowledge of Bluetooth Low Energy.  A basic understanding of one or more of the following: BACnet, Modbus, WiFi (, MQTT, Matter.  An understanding and working knowledge of IOT, smart home/connected products and eco-systems as well as mobile apps.
