Birmingham, United Kingdom Wifinity Full time

About us:
Wifinity was founded in 2007 to solve a problem—our armed forces were struggling with reliable connectivity. While living in barracks, often in remote locations, ordering a landline and booking in an engineer just wasn’t an option.

And that problem isn’t exclusive to the military, either. Students living in University accommodation, families visiting holiday resorts, or living in shared accommodation and retirement communities.

Conventional home broadband doesn’t always work for them.

Wifinity is different. We offer the same benefits as traditional broadband, such as super-fast speeds, WiFi, and secure and private networks, but none of the downsides. We even offer Pay As You Go and flexible contracts, so customers only pay for what they need without hefty penalties or long contract terms.

We take the complexity out of connectivity.

The opportunity:
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for successfully bringing new sites (or changes to existing installations on site) onto the Wifinity network in accordance with the design and company standards.

This role is vital to the company in ensuring the service or product being provided is complete, of a high installation standard, is fully in accordance with the design and operating on the network to meet company standards to support high customer satisfaction and a positive experience of working with and using Wifinity services.

Key areas of focus:
Joining our team you will be responsible for activation of remote sites onto the Wifinity core network, the final commissioning and quality assessment of an installation at a new site, or making on-site network changes to an existing site for the purposes of improving or upgrading the products or services thereof.

Your day to day role will consist of the following…

  • Feeding back to your line manager suggestions on how to improve procedures or designs
  • Attending remote sites in accordance with your rotation schedule, staying overnight when necessary
  • Performing audits of the quality of the installation works, to act as handover acceptance from the installation teams
  • Commissioning remote site core network infrastructure, including circuits, onto the WIfinity network
  • Being responsible for ensuring that core, distribution and end device equipment work in accordance with their specification, design and standards - that our product works on the site and to a high standard
  • Bringing onto the network various elements such as radio links, PON fibre distribution (inc fibre distribution panels), fibre or copper cabling, access points, microtiks, antennas, satellites, modules etc. in accordance with the design and manufacturers specifications
  • Creating and carrying out test procedures (tests could cover cabling (Fluke, OTDR, Light Source), wireless (such as WiFi analysis or Ekahau coverage surveys) or product testing)
  • Investigate problems and diagnosing and repairing faults; troubleshooting
  • Liaising with Installation teams and Project Managers; providing reports on status of works on site
  • Keeping records of changes or works performed
  • Ensuring new or added hardware and services are on the company monitoring system and fully ready for Service Transition into Operations
  • Maintaining in-depth, current knowledge of equipment
  • Maintaining workflow process reports with back-office support
  • Providing technical support
  • Ensuring safe working conditions
  • Training Field Engineering staff where appropriate

About you:
You will be a naturally strong “finisher” - someone who refuses to leave a job until all works are working and complete. You will have proven practical experience and sound working knowledge of wireless networks and their associated equipment. You have very high standards and expectations.

  • Has a Full UK driving licence
  • Is able to spend the week away from home as required and is happy to travel across the UK
  • Self-assured individual, ready to take on a challenge with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal communication and ICT skills; ability to keep systems, documents and reports updated

Your experience:

  • Prior experience working as a network, field or commissioning engineer or similar within the Telecommunications sector; a role that proves your working knowledge of wireless networks and internet services
  • Experience in reading and interpreting network inventories, design documents, patching schedules and other similar materials
  • Previously worked with Ruckus, Cambium, PON equipment and devices
  • Sounds ICT skills, with a good level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Work, Excel and PowerPoint

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package which includes an ‘Annual Leave Buy & Sell Scheme’, in addition to a remote first working environment, allowing our employees more flexibility when it comes to the importance of a healthy work / life balance. Please be aware that the successful applicant to this role will receive an offer which is subject to the satisfactory completion of a basic level DBS check.
