Sr. Innovation Developer

Bristol, United Kingdom Oxford Instruments Plc Full time

We are currently seeking a Senior Innovation Developer for a permanent position in Severn Beach, Bristol. In this role, you will play a crucial part in leading and inspiring the creative process, developing prototypes and new concepts, and driving the investigation and commercialization of cutting-edge technology at a rapid pace. You will also be instrumental in fostering significant collaborations and partnerships with customers, while emphasizing the inventive and innovative elements of being a technologist. Your strong technical expertise in areas such as mechanical, electrical, or software development will be a valuable addition to our team. Join us and contribute to driving innovation forward

Key Responsibilities:

  • Have an interest in, and be involved in, a variety of technologies from plasma source development or thermal control using additive manufacture to the implementation of virtual reality and sustainability initiatives.
  • Understand the difference between a product for market release and a technology prototype, and therefore define what to include and exclude for each.
  • Produce prototype demonstrators quickly by exploiting simulation techniques, 3D printing or other rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management, peers, marketing and sales teams on project technical decisions and product benefits.
  • Proactively drive the design and development of new ideas that can make a difference.
  • Support the Team Leader in managing the team and projects.
  • Define and implement safe working methods.
  • Influence the behavioural safety of your team through your own example, setting high standards and expectations for those around you.

Education/Qualifications:

  • A Senior Innovation Developer must be a skilled innovator. A clear background in development is preferred, so a developing portfolio or industry track record of innovation is important.
  • Degree or higher qualification in Physics, Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • Experience in computing or simulation is also an advantage.

Professional Skills/Abilities:

  • An insatiable curiosity and focus on completing and reporting investigations.
  • Possess a solid understanding of general physics and engineering principles. A good knowledge of plasma physics relevant to the semiconductor processing market would be beneficial.
  • Be able to demonstrate a natural, logical problem-solving ability.
  • Experience of significant involvement in development projects from inception to market delivery with a demonstrable ability to plan ahead to meet business objectives.
  • Demonstrate the ability to think broadly and adopt and/or adapt technology or understanding from other fields of interest to create future business opportunities and communicate their potential to peers.
  • Experience talking to customers and stakeholders in a way that establishes key needs to spec minimum a viable product or technology demonstrator.
  • Be computer literate including familiarity with coding and coding methods, methodical and organised, and be familiar with modern project management practices (e.g. Agile and waterfall).
  • Proactively developing ideas or product concepts to address an often ill-defined but essential customer ‘need’.

At Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, we provide tools for the engineering of micro- and nano-structures, with customers using our process solutions to research and produce materials and semiconductors vital for everything from medical devices and diagnostics to electric cars and quantum computers.

Benefits:

In addition to a competitive starting salary, Oxford Instruments also offers structured career development opportunities, a good work-life balance, private healthcare, a share incentive plan, 25 days annual leave, half-days on Fridays, a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan, and a flexible benefits package that you can tailor to your own requirements.
