Main duties of the job

As a Theatre Scrub Nurse/ODP you will be part of our close knit multidisciplinary team working with leading consultants and like minded professionals.

You will enjoy a varied caseload with state of the art technology, equipment and facilities. You will be instrumental in providing high quality care and patient experiences that are evidenced based and clinically effective.

Tyneside Surgical Services is an Independent Provider who treat a wide range of specialities. Established in 2007, the company has continued to grown and has now developed their very own facility which opened in January 2022. The new facility comprises of a theatre, a day case unit, endoscopy unit, outpatient clinic facilities as well as having on site MRI and ultrasound scanning.

Job responsibilities

As a member of the theatre team to perform alltasks of the registered theatre nurse/ODP including resuscitation, scrub andcirculation following all checks and procedure.

The post holder is expected to carry out all therelevant forms of care without direct supervision and is required todemonstrate procedures, supervise junior staff whilst maintaining a safeworking environment.

To be responsible for the safe use of scrubequipment (diathermy, laparoscopic etc). To demonstrate procedures soundknowledge base of safe decontamination processes and practices, particularlyrelating to the safe decontamination of flexible scopes and sterilisation ofinstruments.

Provide high quality, individualised,evidenced-based care to patients/ clients and relatives/ carers in colorationwith the multi professional team.

To support the theatre Lead and is appropriate to deputiseand co-ordinate running of the theatre floor for them in their absence.

The post holder will be accountable for their own actions withoutdirect supervision and accountable for actions of unqualified staff.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, activelyseeking evidenced based practice which will support clinical outcomes asappropriate.

Ensure all theatre documentation is maintained to a high standard.

On a shift by shift basis, be responsible for the delivery clinicalexpertise in all aspects of patient care in the relevant clinical setting.Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.

Ability to assist with endoscopic procedures and understand andparticipate in the use and decontamination of scopes.

Work in partnership with support staff to ensure that care,treatment and service needs are met, ensuring a standard approach to thedelivery of excellent patient care.

Identify and report clinical risks and ensure these are reportedto the Theatre Lead/Matron in order forappropriate action can be taken.

To take charge of the operating lists, utilising resourceseffectively and ensuring that safe staffing levels are maintained.

Actively participates in all aspects of the clinical governanceprocess.

To be fully conversant with all surgical specialist undertaken inthe clinical area and act as a knowledge base for junior staff members.

Leads the team in promoting infection control, environmentalsafety and risk management

Clinically and professionally expected to make autonomousdecisions on a daily basis including provision of advice to junior staff inclinical decision making.

Discretion to make decisions regarding patient care withinclinical/professional guidelines and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register Degree of equivalent level of education or experience Advanced Communication skills Evidence of current CPD Experience in a array of surgical specialities Flexibility and a dynamic team worker More than 3 years scrub experience

Desirable

Spinal Surgery Experience Laparoscopic gynaecology and general surgery experience
