Job summary
A unique opportunity has arisen in the Cancer Pharmacy Team for the right candidate to take on a new role as an advanced cancer pharmacy technician specialising in haematology.
Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust (OUHFT) Cancer Pharmacy Team were the first in the country to develop these exciting pharmacy technician roles. We are now looking to expand the team further.
You will be an enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive pharmacy technician, with excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills. You will be supported with the objective of making this role your own, developing and expanding new services, while progressing your own professional career. You will be working with a forward-thinking team who are passionate about delivering the best care for our patient population and are always striving to improve.
The Oxford Cancer & Haematology Centre, based across the Churchill and Horton sites, provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care for patients within Oxfordshire and surrounding areas. We provide a comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and day case services. We provide local, regional and national cancer & haematology services including chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) and bone marrow transplant (BMT) therapies, with other novel advanced therapeutic medicinal products (ATMPs) on the horizon. The centre is also a Cancer Research UK Clinical research unit, an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) and a Biomedical Research Centre (BMRC)
Main duties of the job
Key roles include:
To provide leadership to cancer pharmacy technicians and assistants working at the OUHFT Cancer & Haematology Centre, including supporting with recruitment and induction & contribute to overall cancer pharmacy team development and strategy. To liaise with key stakeholders to ensure strategic, collaborative and innovative development of Clinical Cancer Pharmacy Technician services and ensure that overall cancer pharmacy technician clinical services are consistent, integrated and co-ordinated. To provide clinical pharmacy services to Oncology & Haematology Directorate. This may include working on the clinical areas and within a specified clinic to review stable patients on oral SACT in line with a red flag check list and ensure the appropriate and timely screening, supply and clinic review to improve the oral SACT efficiency pathway. To promote the development of the clinical pharmacy technician workforce and training materials. To conduct regular continuous professional development & continuing education within haematology disease areas.This post is primarily based at the Churchill site, but there may be an occasional need for cross-site working at the Horton General Hospital.
Candidates will be asked to prepare a short presentation as part of the interview process. The topic will be sent out with the interview invites.

Main Tasks and ResponsibilitiesDirect Patient Care1. Deliver compassionate excellence via a patient focused clinical pharmacy service, in accordancewith national medicines optimisation principles and local clinical pharmacy Following a period of competency based training and assesment, analyse & verify prescriptions,according to local and national standards, alongside technical resources, patient records andinformation from patient consults to form an opinion on the most appropriate course of Refer appropriately to pharmacists and other members of the multi-disciplinary Accurately and sensitively communicate medicines related information to a variety of healthcareprofessionals and patients including those with language difficulties, physical or mental disabilities,in a way that facilitates shared decision Optimise transfer of patient care, though timely completion of medicines reconciliation andcommunication with GPs and community pharmacy Participate in and promote antimicrobial stewardship, medicines safety, and medicineseffectiveness Where appropriate to be accredited in the appropriate aspects of handling intra-thecalchemotherapy within current Complete training in clinical trials and support the supply of investigational medicinal Maintain skills in accuracy checking, and utilizing dispensary computer and robotic OUH dispensaries, and liaise with external agencies (Such as aseptic production serviceor homecare providers) to ensure safe, timely and appropriate supply of medications to education clinics to educate and advise patients commencing highly specializedtreatments.Supporting Professional Activities12.Complete a local induction programme, including core training and maintain core skills as a role model for pharmacy within the Trust, demonstrating the GPhC Standards for PharmacyProfessionals and our Trust and promote the Trusts equality, diversity and inclusion principles and our and organise your own workload in alignment with professional and organisational and escalate any unexpected or untoward events via the Trusts incident reporting expertise and the necessary knowledge and skills of technical aspects of pharmacy andensure it is recognized as an important part of the pharmacy , lead, manage and maintain a safe and effective Medicines Optimisation service.
