Job summary

Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Speech and Language Therapist to work within the Bromley Stroke Rehabilitation Team (BSRT)

This is a specialist multidisciplinary team which provides a service to adults within Bromley. The team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Specialist Nurse, Care manager and rehabilitation support workers all providing a goal focused rehabilitation service to patient's in their own successful candidate must have basic knowledge and skills gained through placements and theoretical learning of Adult Speech and Language Therapy within stroke rehabilitation and show insight into community working.

You will receive support from and experienced Band 7 SLT and other therapy professional leads and have a chance to develop your skills whilst working innovatively with patients, their carers and a wide range of other agencies.

Main duties of the job

Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust offers first-rate clinical facilities and excellent training including our in-house multidisciplinary preceptorship course for NQTs.

Within our supportive and friendly team you will receive regular clinical supervision with your nominated supervisor, attend regular team meetings and attend and contribute to well-established in-house CPD programmes. In addition to this there will be opportunities for cross site shadowing and peer supervision.

There will also be the chance to contribute towards to supervision of assistants and students and participate in some of the training packages we offer to the wider team.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose

To provide Speech and Language Therapy input to a multidisciplinary, client focused therapy service for adults who have stroke related impairments and rehabilitation goals. Working with the client within their own homes or community settings. To undertake specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and treatment of clients with communication difficulties resulting from a stroke, using highly developed verbal and non-verbal communication skills. These clients may present with complex or multipathological difficulties resulting from a wide range of neurological, structural and psychological conditions. To undertake assessment of dysphagia (swallowing difficulty) as an autonomous clinician and to plan and implement treatment following relevant training and with ongoing access to a senior Speech and Language Therapist. Qualifications & Training

Essential

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy Fully registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Registration with HCPC

Desirable

Successful completion of post-graduate dysphagia training

Experience

Essential

Undergraduate experience of assessment and treatment of adults in a therapeutic setting

Desirable

Awareness and interest in alternative and augmentative communication Experience of group working with adults with acquired neurological disorders of communication and swallowing

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Evidence of knowledge of own clinical skills and initiative in continuing development Knowledge of evidence base for effective treatment for adults with communication and swallowing disorders Awareness of particular needs of patients across pathways acute, community, stroke
