Job summary
Would you like to join an experienced and innovative multidisciplinary musculoskeletal services team? We are seeking a new graduate or someone seeking to extend their experience in musculoskeletal Physiotherapy to join our friendly team.
Our team provide timely and skilled assessment and treatment of MSK conditions to facilitate and improve patients quality of life and maximise patients independence. You will work predominately in a clinic setting and with appropriate training you will have the opportunity to take part in a small element of community orthopaedic visits in addition to some home working at times.
We provide a structured and varied support and training programme that includes preceptorship, regular in-service training with external speakers, clinical supervision within small groups and departmental peer review. External training is actively encouraged by our team and funding is available on application. The MSK Service also includes our MSK Assessment and Triage Service (MATS) and our MSK Podiatry team, who are also happy to support specialist skill development.

We are also committed to innovation and have recently developed and launched our updated website, an innovative self-referral platform, online patient booking systems and a patient self-management tool.
Main duties of the job
You will provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice to patients. You will work with a variety of assessment and treatment interfaces including face to face clinics, telephone, video, community visits, web triage and classes. Be responsible for the physiotherapy assessment of patients, including their needs and any associated risks. Using clinical reasoning skills, you will develop treatment plans that are appropriate to the patient taking into consideration their physiotherapy care, risks and wellbeing. You will work closely with our local partners including the Wellbeing Service, MSK Triage and MSK Podiatrists to provide holistic care for our patients. CLINICAL:
To be professionally and legally responsible andaccountable for all aspects of your own work including the management ofpatients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patientsunder your management and support others to do likewise. To participate in the services clinical and professionalsupervision which takes the form of direct observation of practice or formaltraining / clinical reasoning sessions; advice and support is always available. To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinicalfacts to form an accurate diagnosis and prognosis in a wide range ofconditions, to recommend the best course of intervention and to developcomprehensive management strategies for the patient's presenting condition. To undertake comprehensive assessment of patients, usinginvestigative and analytical skills and to formulateindividualised management and treatment plans,using clinical reasoning and utilising a wide range of treatmentskills and options to formulate a specialised programme of care. To accept clinical responsibility for a designatedcaseload of patients and to organise this effectively andefficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To demonstrate highly developed precise dexterity,co-ordination and palpatory senses for assessment andmanual treatment of patients. To provide spontaneous and planned specialist advice,teaching, and instruction to relatives, carers and other professions topromote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and to ensure a consistentapproach to patient care. To be responsible for equipment used in carrying outphysiotherapy duties and to adhere to any relevant policies, includingcompetence to use equipment and ensure safe use of equipment by others throughteaching, training and supervision of practice. To supervise exercise practitioners and rehabilitationassistants when appropriate. To provide clinical supervision for physiotherapystudents placement, after appropriate training. To assist more senior staff in the training of studentsand physiotherapy assistants. To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise the rehabilitationpotential and to ensure understanding of the condition. Communication skills ofpersuasion, motivation and explanation will be used with a variety of patients. Communicate effectively with all members of thephysiotherapy team, GPs, consultants and other professions to ensure acollaborative approach to the management of the patient's condition. To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and havethe ability to work within the legal framework with patients who lack capacityto consent to treatment.PROFESSIONAL :
To maintain own clinical professional development (CPD)by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments and incorporate them asnecessary into your work. To be an active member of the in-service training programme by attendance at training sessions in-house, tutorialsand by attending external courses and practicing reflective practice. To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to datedocumentation in line with legal, departmental and Trust requirements,communicating assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplinesin the form of reports and letters.To participate in staff appraisal scheme.
To undertake the measurement and evaluation of your workand current practices through the use of evidence-based practice (EBP)projects, audit and outcome measures, either individually or with otherclinical staff and the clinical lead for physiotherapy. Make recommendationsfor change.Demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governanceand Risk Management and apply to the work situation.
ORGANISATIONAL:
To be responsible for a designated area of work as agreed with the team leader and to plan and organize efficiently and effectively with regard to patient management and use of time.
To decide priorities for a work area, balancing other patient related and professional demands. Ensure that these remain in accordance with those of the physiotherapy service as a whole.
To be actively involved in the collection of appropriatedata and statistics for use in the physiotherapy service.To be aware of Health and Safety aspects of your work and implement any policies, which may be required to improve the safety of your work area, including prompt recording and reporting of accidents to senior staff and ensuring that equipment use is safe.
Ensure the implementation of physiotherapy service policies and any service development changes.
To comply with theorganisationaland service policies and procedures and to be involved in the reviewing and updating as appropriate.
