Job Introduction
We are looking for a Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs (CRBA) Manager to join the BBC Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs (CRBA) in the CRBA Commissioning (Scripted & Acquisitions) team. This is a Fixed Term Contract role which can be based in London or by agreement in one of the other BBC primary bases across the UK (Cardiff, Belfast, Salford or Glasgow).
CRBA manages and connects the BBC’s Intellectual Property, strategic and business interests through expert negotiation, contracting and commercial deal-making. It is comprised of multiple business teams embedded in Content (including Television, Radio & Music, Children’s & Education, Sport), News, Technology & Product, the Nations, plus a central CRBA team. The teams share many common business activities key to the commissioning, production and distribution of the BBC’s services and content.
The Scripted & Acquisitions team is a multi-disciplinary team, responsible for commissioning, licensing, acquiring, overseeing production and broadcasting the scripted content on all the BBC’s channels and making the content available on BBC iPlayer.
This is an exciting opportunity at a pivotal time for the BBC. You will be instrumental in helping the BBC to maximise audience value and commercial return in an increasingly digital, global and competitive marketplace.
Although you may be assigned to a particular CRBA area and workload, from time to time you may be required to work in other areas of CRBA to broaden knowledge, skills and experience.
All CRBA colleagues are ‘agile workers’ and our expectation is that they will work an average of 2-3 day per week in BBC buildings.
Main Responsibilities
As a CRBA Manager for Content (including Drama, Comedy commissioning and Acquisitions), you will be working closely with the Senior CRBA Managers and the Director of CRBA, you will support the CRBA team and genre business and commissioning teams, with a strong contractual focus. This is a key role driving the strategy for CRBA to acquire, optimize and exploit content IP. In addition, you will be the key negotiating, legal drafting and contracting resource within the Content commercial team and across the Content CRBA team as required.
Are you the right candidate?
To be successful in this role, you will have experience of providing general legal and IP advice and demonstrable experience of the commissioning process, rights issues relating to digital media, content and acquisition agreements. A sound understanding of media business and legal affairs issues for commissioning of content is essential and will be complimented by the experience you will have gained from working across TV and digital platforms.
Solid knowledge and experience of the production process and of negotiating and contracting with talent and their agents is also essential and will be underpinned by your familiarity with key rights frameworks (Equity, WGGB, PACT Terms of Trade, MU etc.) and regulatory frameworks (BBC’s Commissioning Code of Practice, BBC Charter and Agreement etc.).
In addition to extensive experience and an expert understanding of negotiating and contracting with content suppliers and management of supplier relations, you will possess good knowledge and experience of digital content contracting, digital platforms and distribution and digital production.
A depth of experience of managing multiple projects through to completion, within both time and budgetary constraints is required. Supporting this will be your strong analytical skills, your ability to solve problems creatively, and implement decisions. With your strong interpersonal skills and relationship management experience, you will be able to influence internal and external stakeholders underpinned by your sophisticated negotiation and communication skills.
The following are desirable: To be legally qualified and have direct experience of working across Acquisitions and Pre-buys of scripted content

About the BBC
The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.
We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours in the document attached below.
Diversity matters at the BBC. We have a working environment where we value and respect every individual's unique contribution, enabling all of our employees to thrive and achieve their full potential.

We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
