We are looking to recruit an experiencedOrnithologist to sit within our existing team of ecologicalconsultants at various offices around the country. You will play a pivotalrole in collaborating with our talented team of ecologistslandscape architects and environmentalplanners.
Yourresponsibilities willinclude:
- Assisting withand leading on ornithology surveys following a range of surveymethodologies and techniques.
- Keepingmeticulous field notes and plans in accordance with guidelines andbest practice and storing data effectively.
- Data analysis and presentation deskbased studycollating relevant available data and drafting technicalreports
- Experience of undertaking EcologicalImpact Assessments on sensitive species/sites/populations andcompleting Shadow Habitats Regulations Assessments would bedesirable.
- Supporting the completion of otherecological survey types as appropriate to your skill set and careergoals e.g. water vole and otter badger bats habitatsetc
- Providing advice on ecological andornithological matters to clients stakeholders and projectteams
- Mentoring and supporting staff with aninterest in Ornithology sharing your knowledge and expertise tofoster their professional development
- Buildingand maintaining strong relationships with clients contractors andregulatory bodies
Aboutyou
- Professionalornithological experience in the public or private sector would beadvantageous.
- Ideally a degree in EcologyEnvironmental Science or a relatedfield.
- Excellent bird identification skills andthe ability to demonstrate experience in a range of ornithologysurveys and techniques (e.g. vantage points breeding &wintering birds raptors farmland andwaders).
- Experience of working and navigatingsafely in remote environments across all seasons including ininclement weather.
- Willingness to travel forwork including unsociable hours particularly during the spring andsummer months.
- Good theoretical grounding inecology survey guidance environmental assessment and mitigationmeasures
- Demonstrable understanding of UKwildlife legislation and the conservation status of UK birdspecies.
- Experienced in writing reportsensuring high standards and good attention todetail.
- Experienced in writing or assistingwith Habitat Regulation Assessments for SPA impacts would beadvantageous but not essential.
- Anunderstanding of scientific data collection methods data analysisand an aptitude for accurate and clear recording and storage ofdata.
- Ability to work collaboratively with ateam of colleagues in the office and away fromhome.
- Membership or eligibility for membershipwith a relevant professional body is desirable but not essential(e.g. CIEEM).
- Experience using GIS softwarewould be advantageous but not a necessity.
- Afull UK driving licence and access tovehicle.
