Social Enterprise Bank Staff
Purpose
Do you want to work with a friendly, fun team in a unique setting that’s more than just a business?
Are you interested in being a flexible resource in social enterprise that offers opportunities to work alongside adults with learning and other disabilities?
The role is to provide assistance in one or more of our social enterprises here in Botton, such as in our Store, Café, Creamery, Food Centre, at Events and in preparing (picking/packing/posting) online orders. We are creating a bank of part-time and seasonal staff who can help in the social enterprises here at Botton Village when we have uplifts in seasonal demand and to cover planned and unplanned absences in our staff teams, to ensure our businesses can continue to produce and trade.
In this role you would be prepared to learn the ropes in one or more of our small businesses:
Village Store - Customer Service and Stock Management
Online Store - Picking and packing orders; website administration, photography & customer service
Café - Customer Service & Food Preparation
Food Centre - Making products from raw ingredients grown in our gardens such as jams, juices and chutneys
Wood Workshop - Creating wood-based products, everything from toys to clothes airers
Events - Assisting in the delivery of an event here in Botton or working with one of our teams attending markets of country fayres to sell our products.
Locations & Travel
Botton Village (Danby, North Yorkshire)
The role will be based at Botton Village, Danby, in the North Yorkshire Moors. To be considered for the role, you must be able to reliably travel to our site
About Botton Village
Botton Village is nestled in a huge valley on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors. If you love being surrounded by the most stunning and inspiring scenery, you’ll love it here
We’re quite unique: there’s a village shop, café, supported homes, a walled garden, woodworking and creative studios, massive greenhouses, a 200-seater theatre and stunning scenery at every turn. It is a special place, and you will be part of an inspiring and developing community.
People are supported in their homes in the village. The people we support have a wide range of activities they can participate in or learn. Many of the items we make are sold in our shops or online. Our craft workshops provide creative experiences in woodworking, textiles, pottery and art.
We have our own dairy herd of 37 cows who produce over 130,000 litres of milk each year to make our award-winning cheeses.
Our award-winning cheeses are sold all over the UK – We were awarded Gold at the 2017/18 World Cheese Awards. Our cheeses have appeared on Paul Hollywood’s “Pies and Puds” programme as well as “Remarkable Places to Eat” with Fred & Nadiya.
Duties & Responsibilities
As a Social Enterprise Bank Worker you will:
- Support the staff team in all aspects of the different ‘assistant’ roles you are assigned to train and work in. We are a small team, and we need people who are able to follow instructions and willing to work hard as a team player.
- Be expected to have a can-do attitude, be willing to learn but also share the skills and experiences you may already have.
- Need to conduct yourself in a friendly, kind and professional manner at all times.
- Some of the roles have manual work at their core, so your physical fitness and capability will need to be assessed against the wise range of tasks you might be asked to carry out.
- Need to be committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety – some of the roles will involve you being involved in food production, cleaning and equipment maintenance tasks quite a lot, so you should be prepared to get your hands dirty (before washing them thoroughly).
- Come with the ability to solve small problems and work on your own initiative once you understand what needs doing in each of the areas you’ll work in.
Person Specification
Key Competencies:
- Flexibility and availability
- Willing to learn new skills, processes and ways of doing things
- A can-do attitude.
Salary: £11.44 per hour for age 21+; £8.60 for 18-20 year olds
Location: Botton Village, Near Danby, North Yorkshire.
Hours: Hours on an ad hoc basis, as required to cover peaks in seasonal demand, and to fill in for both planned and unplanned leave in staff teams.
Camphill Village Trust is an equal opportunity employer.
Reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a sufficient number of applications.
Camphill Village Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all adults who use our services and as such expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to complete the relevant pre-employment checks including a DBS check.
