About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary
The Engineering Project Coordinator at Caterpillar Shrewsbury Ltd will be expected to assist the Engineering and NPI Project Team Leaders to execute projects on time by:
Assisting in the upfront profiling of projects.
Facilitating the procurement, storage and delivery of parts required for projects.
Maintaining the mechanisms by which we monitor actual and forecast project costs for labour, services & material.
The timeliness and value of the introduction of engineering solutions and new products is intrinsically linked to our growth and sustainability, therefore it is a vital part of the Shrewsbury site, so success is measured via key site metrics.
The position will not have direct reports and will report into the NPI Team.
Full training will be given on all systems required to execute the job role; however prior knowledge would be useful.
What You Will Do:
Assisting the project profiling process with providing estimates of lead times and costs for both current stock parts and new design components / assemblies.
Liaising with the Facility Purchase Team and In-House Machining Value Stream Team to ensure parts and services are available at point of use to the required timescales and budget to meet NPI & Engineering project milestones.
Tracking components / services from requisition to point of use utilising existing systems, initiating and implementing alternative plans or improvement processes as necessary to ensure timeliness of delivery (includes Government Furnished Equipment, GFE).
Updating relevant systems to provide real time parts availability data.
Creating monthly reports per project to advise status and (if applicable) recovery actions to be taken.
Resolving any invoice grief raised on prototype parts and/or services in a timely manner.
Ensuring accurate tracking of any GFE supplied for project use, and to ensure it is returned to the owner at the end of the project.
Ensuring prototype stores inventory accuracy is maintained at class A standards.
Upon completion of a programme, work with the wider NPI Team and Engineers to ensure all surplus material is appropriately handled.
Ensure safety is priority when storing and accessing parts (both internally and externally).
Required Experience:
Understanding of the goods inwards & inspection processes.
Experience of using material handling equipment.
Experience of interpreting engineering drawings.
Desirable Skills / Experience:
Knowledge of QAD-EE (including sales order inputs, purchase requisition process, inventory analysis, price checks etc.)
Experience of providing cost estimates for new design components
Ability to promote creative problem solving within self and others
Proactively looks to improve processes with a lean mindset
Military and Remanufacturing business / product knowledge
Prior experience of operating within an Engineering / Technical environment
