Laboratory Technician

This is a great opportunity to join a busy state of the art Agro Testing laboratory. The purpose of this post is to to complete, to the required quality standards, the analysis of samples for a given method using laboratory techniques. Further, assist in the efficient day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
This is a full time role, working 27.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday 07:00 - 15:00. The training shift pattern will be Monday to Friday 08:30 - 16:30.
Previous experience within a laboratory is desired but not essential.
- Registration, preparation and analysis of samples as required using the LIMS system.
- To carry out forage analysis by NIR and other accompanying analysis. E.g dry matter and crude ash.
- Packing and dispatching samples for subcontract analysis, ensuring all samples are thoroughly packaged to prevent damage during transit.
- Effective use of external logistics portal for despatching samples.
- Reporting and/or calculation of results in accordance with the methods of analysis.
- Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
- Will be required to answer incoming calls and make out- going calls to follow up on customers and must maintain a high level of customer service at all times
- Adhering to documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, ensuring that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, and that all necessary records and quality data are maintained.
- Maintain turnaround time at >95%, ensuring that daily targets are achieved.
- Work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
- To assist through operating best practice in order to meet the requirements of the UKAS accreditation standard.
- To partake in any developmental training as required in compliance with the Company Standard.
- Comply with all relevant Health, Safety and Security Regulations.
Qualifications
- Good understanding of H&S guidelines relevant to post.
- Good laboratory skills and practices.
- Proven track record of taking responsibility and ownership for problems and following them through to resolution.
- Good administration skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail.
- Maths, English, Chemistry or Biology at GCSE grade C, or above or equivalent.
- Enthusiasm, energy and a driven outlook
- Good team player.
- Passionate about quality and customer service
- Strong communication skills both internally and externally
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise own work.
- Ability to adapt to changing workplace demands.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
