Consultant Nephrologist delivering General Nephrology to our East Lancashire patients at the John Sagar Renal Centre, Laurie Solomon Renal Centre and in reach into Blackburn Hospital. The post holder will offer renal transplant follow-up clinics and renal procedures at Royal Preston Hospital including medical PD catheter insertion and renal biopsies. On call requirement 1:12.
The post holder will join 18 consultants to maintain and improve the care offered to patients across our tertiary renal service.
Main duties of the job
Standard duties of a substantive Consultant consist of:
- Undertaking continuing professional development.
- Contributing to the education of departmental staff and students in training.
- Development of individual and collaborative research activity.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting-up a new Post-Transplant follow-up clinic at the John Sagar Renal Centre to look after renal transplant patients in the Burnley area. They will also support the transplant clinic at Royal Preston Hospital which is set-up to repatriate recently transplanted patients from Manchester Royal Infirmary typically 6-8 weeks after transplant.
The advertised role includes participation in the on-call rota. If however, the successful candidate has a strong desire to participate in ward cover as well, there may be options
Candidates proficient in renal biopsies, peritoneal dialysis (PD) and tunnelled haemodialysis catheter insertion are especially welcome to complement our existing team

Qualifications
Essential criteria
Full GMC Registration Hold MRCP or equivalent qualification: Hold Nephrology SCE Entry on the GMC Specialist register for Renal Medicine & /GIM via •CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) •CESR or •European Community Right
Desirable criteria
Higher qualifications; MA, MSc or MD/PhD.
Experience
Essential criteria
Full training in Renal & GIM/ as required by the JRCPTB. Recent experience of caring for General Nephrology, Transplant and Haemodialysis patients. Competent to perform PD catheter insertion and renal biopsies
Desirable criteria
Experience of leading and developing care for Vasculitis & AKI services Experience in other specialist area (s) that would enhance existing LTHTR services. Trained Clinical or Educational Supervisor
