Principal Information Development Manager

Glasgow, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

About the Organisation:

Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 as a national health board, employing around 1200 people, and with an annual budget of around £101 million. Public Health Scotland wants to see a Scotland where everybody thrives, a Scotland where life expectancy improves and the difference in life expectancy between our poorest and wealthiest areas gets smaller.

The role of the Data & Digital Innovation directorate (DDI) is to harness the power of innovation and data science to transform, expand and release the potential of our data and information assets in order to lead a data driven approach to improving public health outcomes nationally and locally.

The Post:

By joining Data & Digital Innovation as one of our Principal Information Development Managers you will:

  • Lead multiple project teams to deliver key information development projects designed to contribute to Public Health Scotland’s strategic priorities.
  • Initiate, manage and deliver specific data development projects through their complete life cycle
  • Champion opportunities for innovative ways to collect data and present information and intelligence
  • Keep abreast, through effective communication with stakeholders in NHS Boards, Scottish Government and partner organisations, of policy developments which impact on the delivery of DDI’s objectives.
  • Work with clinicians, other health professionals, partner organisations, research bodies and universities to design, scope, analyse and interpret information for specific projects and audits, negotiating costs with customers as required.
  • Provide specialist advice to external customers on the appropriate interpretation and use of health information and intelligence to improve decision-making, and promote services of PHS by participating in presentations, workshops and seminars.
  • Help customers access national datasets in safe settings in accordance with information governance principles.

The Candidate:

You will be committed to improving the health of the people of Scotland and want to make a real difference to achieving Public Health Scotland’s objectives through innovations in data, information and intelligence.

You must have the ability to manage staff, coordinate multiple complex projects, each with its own challenges, and each making competing demands on your time. You will be numerate with a keen interest to learn about and develop health, social care and other relevant datasets for the benefit of understanding and improving public health in Scotland.

Location and Working Pattern:

The post holder can be flexibly based in our Edinburgh (Gyle Square) or Glasgow (Central Quay) offices.

Please note that PHS will be relocating from Central Quay, Glasgow to Bothwell Street, Glasgow in September 2024.

Currently hybrid working.

Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week – part-time hours MAY be considered.

During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need, you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with PHS.

Benefits:

Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits. Click here to view the full range of the PHS Employee Benefits.

Closing date for completed applications is 19th June 2024.
