Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen on the Band 6 Occupational Therapy general rotation which currently offers posts across St Mary's hospital which is the major trauma centre for the North West London network, Charing Cross hospital which is a specialist stroke and neuroscience centre and Hammersmith hospital which houses the specialist cardiology centre.

The successful candidate will have a chance to work across a variety of specialities including, ICU, neurosciences, trauma, orthopaedics and surgery, acute specialist medicine (general and elderly), acute medical unit, renal medicine, oncology and respiratory medicne . All teams are well staffed with band 8 and 7 senior clinicians supporting each specialty team to ensure essential professional development opportunities are available from the moment you join the trust. Flexible working arrangements/ fixed term/ secondment contracts will also be considered.

The post holder will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to work effectively with both their OT and multi-disciplinary team colleagues.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality standard of occupational therapy management to patients at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. To participate in a cross site rotational scheme, providing a high standard of occupational therapy. To perform advanced assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

When providing occupational therapy within this Trust you will be expected to be professional, efficient, effective, with a commitment to evidence based practice and continuous professional Development.

The post holder will be required to participate in the rostered weekend service cover arrangements including, unsocial hours and overtime (specific rota details are held locally within departments). Staff will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

Degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy. State registration with the Health Care Professions Council. Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio

Desirable

Membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT)

Experience

Essential

Recent experience in relevant occupational therapy specialities and clinical settings Experience of working as part of an occupational therapy and multidisciplinary team Demonstrate an understanding of the use of evidence based practice in speciality Experience of supervision of students/ therapy support workers, with development of basic supervision skills

Desirable

Involvement with Clinical Governance issues and an understanding of their relation to patient care

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential

Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to this specialist area. Able to use knowledge of a range of treatment approaches in the specialist area. Competent IT skills. To make sound judgments and reliable decisions in a variety of demanding situations. Good communication skills
