We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, experienced and well qualified Clinical Psychologist to join a thriving clinical health psychology department.
You will provide clinical psychology services to the staff support and psychological trauma adult specialties.
Main duties of the job
You will provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy to the clinical health psychology service at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
You will provide advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers.
You will supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other psychologists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment.
Clinical Psychology is highly valued at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. You will contribute to the development of a strong and highly focused department of Clinical Health Psychology. There will be ample opportunity for professional development and innovation.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
Honours degree or higher in psychology. Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) which allows for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan development psychology as accredited by the BPS. Registration with the Health Professionals Council
Desirable criteria
Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
Experience
Essential criteria
Experience of working as a Clinical Psychologist in a related setting e.g. clinical health psychology or adult mental health. Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings. Experience of working with clients presenting with the full range of clinical severity, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
Desirable criteria
Experience of working with clients with medical conditions. Experience of working in multi-disciplinary settings. Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision. Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.
Skills
Essential criteria
Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Confident working in multi-disciplinary teams.
Desirable criteria
Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups. Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
Desirable criteria
Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Knowledge of contemporary issues in the Clinical Psychology Profession.
Other Requirements
Essential criteria
Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
Desirable criteria
Experience of working within a multicultural framework
