Job summary

If so, we are looking for a part time (10 - 16 hours) HealthCare Assistant/Phlebotomist. Our ideal days of work for this role would be a Monday andThursday.

This is a varied and interesting role and you'll be joining afriendly, supportive and hardworking team who prides themselves on providing anexcellent customer service to our patients. You will engage with patients,doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals.

We would love to find someone who is great with people, hasexcellent communication skills, a cheerful disposition, and a friendly, caringpersonality. Good IT skills are a must.

Previous HCA experience would be an advantage, though notessential as full training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

To providea full and comprehensive Venepuncture and sampling service with due regard toprocedures governing safe clinical practice, confidentiality, cross infectionand Health and Safety and to show respect for the dignity and comfort of thepatients at all times.

To providean efficient and accurate sampling service on a range of patients includingchildren, adults and elderly ensuring that all samples are despatched to thelaboratory without delay.

To beindividually responsible for carrying out procedures for data entry and thelabelling and recording of specimens ensuring accuracy and safe practiceaccording to established protocols.

To have athorough knowledge of the appropriate range of test for each container and toensure that appropriate blood volumes are collected.

To carryout urine dip tests, blood pressure readings, ECGs, and other tests as deemednecessary by the Practice after completing the necessary training.

Tounderstand and carry out all duties in accordance with Health and SafetyRegulations including reporting and documentation of accidents.

To work aspart of a multidisciplinary team liaising with medical, nursing, administrationand laboratory staff.

Tocommunicate effectively with patients, parents and relatives so as to providereassurance and minimise stress.

Any otherduties that may be required appropriate for this position.

JOB TITLE: Phlebotomist/health Care assistant

REPORTS TO: Practice Manager/Lead Practice Nurse/PracticeNurses

RESPONSIBLE TO: GP Partnership

ACCOUNTABLE TO: GP Partnership

Main Responsibilities

1.To provide a full and comprehensive Venepuncture andsampling service with due regard to procedures governing safe clinicalpractice, confidentiality, cross infection and Health and Safety and to showrespect for the dignity and comfort of the patients at all times.

2.To provide an efficient and accurate sampling serviceon a range of patients including children, adults and elderly ensuring that allsamples are despatched to the laboratory without delay.

3.To be individually responsible for carrying outprocedures for data entry and the labelling and recording of specimens ensuringaccuracy and safe practice according to established protocols.

4.To be fully competent in Venepuncture followingsuitable training according to established protocols.

5.To have full working knowledge of blood collectiontubes and systems.

6.To have a thorough knowledge of the appropriate rangeof test for each container and to ensure that appropriate blood volumes arecollected.

7.To carry out additional procedures involving specialtests according to standard operating procedures and the laboratory manualprotocols.

8.To carry out urine dip tests, blood pressure readings,ECGs, and other tests as deemed necessary by the Practice after completing thenecessary training.

9.To assist in and carry out audits as required underthe Quality and Outcome Framework and for the purpose of Clinical Governance asand when required.

10.To collect blood for grouping and cross matching inaccordance with established protocols

11.To provide instruction and demonstrations onVenepuncture to medical and nursing staff in training.

12.To understand and carry out all duties in accordancewith Health and Safety Regulations including reporting and documentation ofaccidents.

13.To work as part of a multidisciplinary team liaisingwith medical, nursing, administration and laboratory staff.

14.To communicate effectively with patients, parents andrelatives so as to provide reassurance and minimise stress.

15.Any other duties that may be required appropriate forthis position.
