Rate of Pay: £14.17 per hour/ £27263.08 per annum

Hours of Work: Full time 37 hours per week

Please note this is a regulated post, as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (SVG) Act 2006 and the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007, both amended (by, respectively, section 64 and Schedule 7, Protection of Freedoms Act 2012). Also as defined in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Order 2007 (SVGO) and as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (PoFA). Therefore, an AccessNI disclosure will be requested to assist with the decision-making process.

Duties include (but not limited to):

  1. Line management of Leisure Assistants, including the consistent application of all Human Resources policies & procedures, and the carrying out of interviews/investigations as required.
  2. On a shift basis, and in line with Centre operational programme requirement, supervise the deployment of operational staff including allocation of tasks, rotation of duties, staff cover, scheduling of meal breaks etc., in compliance with Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Plans. Assist the manager on duty in monitoring the work of contracted cleaners and security contractors and reporting service failures.
  3. Responsible for early opening of facility and key holding duties on a shift basis and in line with Centre programme requirements. Assist the manager on duty by supervising use of the facility by the public, ensuring provision of high standards of customer care, responding to customer complaints/queries, and directing these to the manager on duty as required.
  4. Help ensure that all Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult legislation, published relevant guidelines and Council policies are complied with in the operation of the services and activities of the facility, to help ensure a safe environment for both customers and work colleagues.
  5. Help ensure that the very highest standards of health and safety for both customers and colleagues are always maintained and that all relevant statutory health and safety requirements and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council health and safety policies, procedures and work instructions are adhered to at all times.
  6. Prepare reports as required for the manager on duty. Ensure that quality standards, work instructions, and records in accordance with Quality Accreditation systems agreed by the Council are followed and maintained.
  7. Assist in the recruitment process and the inducting of new employees and work placement students and assist with the programme delivery of ongoing staff training to employees.
  8. Assist the Operations Co-ordinator in planning and organising special events and functions, providing adequate staff cover.
  9. Ensure compliance with Council policies and procedures and operate within the highest standards of management and personal behaviour, which reflect the core values and behaviours of the organisation.
  10. Promote equality of opportunity and access in service delivery and in the employment of staff through the mainstreaming of equality within the Council.
  11. Ensure the provision of high standards of customer care across all the services provided by the Unit and promote and manage the service effectively and communicate in a way, which enhances and promotes the public image and overall reputation of the Council.
  12. Develop and enhance working relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders to maximise corporate and community planning outcomes and to generate innovation in service delivery.

Essential Criteria:

  • 5 GCSE passes at grade A-C, or a NVQ Level 2 or equivalent
  • Three years' experience as a Leisure Assistant or Leisure Attendant
  • One year's supervisory experience in a leisure facility
  • One year's experience in line managing a team of employees
  • A recognised lifeguard award
  • A coaching qualification
  • Awareness of Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult issues.
  • Possess a sound knowledge of Health and Safety requirements to the Leisure industry.
  • Ability to work unsociable hours on a rota basis and ability to Work additional hours as required.
  • Must be willing to undertake all relevant training.
