We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Associate Director of Business Operations and Governance to join our Senior Management Team (SMT). In this pivotal role, you will support the Managing Director in ensuring GMS meets its strategic, contractual, and operational goals as outlined in the strategy and business plan. You will lead efforts to drive the Boards work programme, fostering continuous improvement and transformation within the organisation. Additionally, you will support the Chair and the organisation in maintaining governance frameworks and practices, ensuring smooth operations between GMS and the Trust. This includes adherence to all applicable legislative, health and safety, and capital, estates and facilities governance obligations.

Main duties of the job

- Collaborate with the Chair, Managing Director and Company Secretary, to ensure the effective planning and execution of Board and Committee meetings

- Oversee strategic initiatives from development to successful execution

- Lead cross-cutting transformation programmes to continuously improve service delivery and performance

- Partner with the MD and SLT for strategic direction and leadership in organisational change

- Assist executives in decision-making, program management

- Review and enhance organisational structure; identify and address knowledge and skills gaps

- Improve processes for efficiency and productivity

- Identify savings through innovation and technology

- Develop It solutions for efficiency and performance

- Ensure compliance with the OHFA between GMS and the Trust, maintaining relevant SLAs through regular review.

- Manage contract performance and budgets with SLT colleagues

- Implement governance policies aligned with best practices and regulatory requirement

- Liase between the Chair, board and organisation, ensuring all GMS Committees are operating and supported with resources

- Ensure governance compliance and collaboration with the Trust

- Maintain legal and policy compliance; conduct audits and risk assessments

- Present governance reports to board and senior management

- Direct corporate PMO, administration, and switchboard functions

- Manage HTMs, estates, facilities and capital governance

Job responsibilities

The Associate Director of Business Operations and Governance oversees a broad spectrum of responsibilities aimed at ensuring operation and strategic alignment of the organisation. As a key leader, you will drive performance improvements across support functions, participate in senior management meetings to contribute to strategic decisions and represent the organisation at Trust meetings.

Your role is critical in managing organisational change in line with our strategic plan. You will, collaborate closely with senior management and governance colleagues to maintain effective governance frameworks. This includes leading change initiatives, enhancing staff capabilities, and improving service delivery.

You will also play a pivotal role in governance and compliance by maintaining frameworks and risk registers, and supporting the Board with reports and meeting preparations. Managing the corporate support team involves recruitment, training, and performance management to establish systems that support our strategic objectives and ensure continuous improvement.

Working closely with the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team, you will develop and implement organisational goals and initiatives that enhance operational efficiency. By analysing market trends and integrating innovative solutions, you will drive transformational change initiatives that align with our mission.

Overall, this role requires strong leadership, strategic vision, and effective communication to drive our organisation forward and ensure operational excellence.

Essential

Educated to degree in Business administration, Management or a related field or equivalent level of experience (extensive years experience) - in complex estate management at a senior level Membership of professional body/bodies relevant Clear evidence of continual professional development

Desirable

Additional certification in additional skills Project management, Governance Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience

Experience in managing complex change to services. Proven experience of budget setting and holding to account others for delivery within defined envelopes Evidence of developing and assuring delivery of complex business, service level, and strategic plans Involvement in business planning processes including strategic work Proven track record of leading and facilitating change in complex situations with a wide cohort of professionals.

Proven knowledge and experience of change management and leadership, including an ability to achieve change where resistance is experienced Highly developed analytical skills and problem solving as well as a confident and highly effective decision-maker.
