Life on the team

The PMO function is an integral part of the Service Development & Major Change (SD&C) team within Computacenter’s Group Information Services (GIS).

We provide support across GIS as a source of project management guidance, expertise & tools, continuing to use & evolve the development & change framework (DCF) to ensure appropriate governance is in place. We develop best practice whilst also recognising the need for a pragmatic approach to project management - all projects are different and may require flexibility to meet the stakeholder’s needs & required outcomes.

Promoting a culture of collaboration & continuous improvement is important within the PMO. Although we are a relatively small team of 7, we make a difference, and we care about providing the highest level of service to our colleagues across GIS and wider Computacenter. Teamwork, knowledge-sharing and proactivity are essential to be a success within the team.

The role

The PMO function has been evolving of late and is still on a journey to maturity, so this is an exciting time to join the team and to bring your own perspective and PMO experience. There is a lot to learn, which means the onboarding and training period may be longer than in some other roles – full on-the-job training is provided however you will need to be focused on your own development, curious and tenacious.

Team members are based in France and in the UK at present, with Computacenter’s Hatfield office being the UK team ‘hub’. Hybrid working is the norm, and you can typically expect to work in the office 2 or 3 days a week however this will vary depending on specific projects/work activities.

The PMO team are uniquely placed within GIS. We are involved with a multitude of projects end to end, from small internal infrastructure projects to new customer or acquisition projects and complex, strategic programmes of work across multiple business areas, countries and technologies. This provides a great opportunity to develop an understanding of Computacenter, to support your future career development.

The reputation of the PMO continues to grow as it becomes ever more focused on adding value. The future will bring a broader remit and great opportunities for team members to enhance their skill sets and demonstrate their capabilities across GIS and beyond.
