About the Role

Bury St. Edmunds PCN has an exciting opportunity for a hardworking and enthusiastic paramedic to join our busy and friendly team. We look forward to welcoming our new post-holder to the role on a full-time basis.

The main responsibilities of the role include: Urgently respond to referrals and provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment at first point of contact by attending to patients, according to patients’ needs either in the practice or patient homes; Support, and continue the development of, an on-the-day emergency patient service in the practice; Accurately triage and prioritise patients, including in both emergency situations and telephone triage, demonstrating the use of a variety of techniques to elicit the history of an event/illness, including past medical and drug history; Evaluate clinical information from examination and history taking, and initiate appropriate treatment and/or referral; Review the effectiveness of the treatment provided, making changes where necessary to improve patient outcomes; Maintain accurate clinical records in an efficient manner. The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary, healthcare team, as you will work alongside fellow professionals within the practice in support of one another.

About the Candidate If you are an experienced paramedic wanting a new challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and experience: Be a registered paramedic, with current HCPC registration and have post-registration experience, ideally with some being in primary care; Have completed ENP/ ECP Minor Injuries and Minor Illness course Level 6 and be a ALS/APLS provider;
Be able to effectively assess, plan, treat and refer patients; Be able to evaluate patient care confidently; Have experience of working to protocols and guidelines; To exhibit excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills; Have the ability to make clear decisions with confidence and communicate these effectively; Understanding of the need to work within the parameters of one's own training and capability, according to the Health and Care Professions Council; Experience of autonomous practice working and multi-professional team working;
Can demonstrate a broad and sound knowledge of complex and common conditions in primary care in both adults and children.

Bury St. Edmunds Primary Care Network consists of five surgeries and serves some 65,000 patients from the town and surrounding villages. Our vision is to deliver the highest standards of care, with equality, dignity and respect, to our patient population. Our aim is to create a system where member practices work closely together in collaboration with health and social care, voluntary sector, community groups and local people, to deliver inclusive and personalised care.

Bury St. Edmunds Primary Care Network is a established but ever growing PCN, with existing roles already including: care coordinators, social prescribers, clinical pharmacists, paramedics, health and wellbeing coaches and pharmacist technicians that support GPs and other clinical teams to enhance patient services in the local community.

This role will contribute to improving the quality of patient care across the network of practices. You will be joining an enthusiastic team of clinicians and administrators and will be well supported with on-going professional development (training support, CPD and peer support).
