The role

We are seeking to appoint an experienced professional leader to the role of Head of Postgraduate Admissions at the University of Bristol to cover the maternity leave of the substantive postholder. Our central postgraduate admissions team handles over 70,000 applications a year across four teams working closely with a wide range of senior stakeholders across faculties and professional services.


What will you be doing?

The Head of Postgraduate Admissions is responsible for managing the in-year and subsequent year planning for future years admissions process, policy, procedure, people management and development of all staff within the team, following the input to and establishment of an agreed annual plan alongside the Director of Admissions. The post-holder sets quality and professional standards, determining the framework for delivery of an efficient, fair, transparent, and customer-focused admissions service which ensures the University meets intake targets, meets the needs of faculties and their academic Schools by effective application of agreed selection criteria and complies with best practice and external audit/legislative requirements within rapidly changing and increasingly competitive external recruitment environments.

The Head of Postgraduate Admissions will have expert knowledge of admissions policy and procedure and liaise regularly with academic and professional service staff within schools and faculties.


You should apply if

You are a proactive forward thinking leader with relevant people and process managerial experience gained in a complex organisation. You have experience of managing complex issues and processes, including process review and improvement and be able to command respect amongst academic and non-academic colleagues. Ideally, you will have in-depth knowledge of university admissions and the student recruitment challenges currently faced by the UK HE sector.
