Job summary

We are recruiting an established Health Care Assistant with a keen interest in wound care and dressings to join our friendly team at Oakwood and Bull Farm Surgery.

Main duties of the job

Under thesupervision of a qualified nurse, to provide clerical and nursing assistantsupport for the whole Nursing Team in the treatment, preventative care, healthscreening and education of patients within the practice and community setting.

Working pattern to be agreed. Will require additional enhanced access working hours on a Friday evening until 8pm and Saturday morning on a rota basis.

Oakwood Surgery is a busy training practice, rated 'good' at our last CQC inspection, split over two sites.

Our team is made up of:

5 GP Partners

4 Salaried GP's

7 Nurses/HCA's

1 Pharmacist Prescriber

1 Practice Manager

20 Receptionists

10 Other administrative staff

We also work collaboratively with a team of pharmacists, FCP's and paramedics to provide a multi-disciplinary service to our 16,000 patients.

As a training practice we are passionate about supporting our team to learn new skills and develop in their role to better meet the needs of our patients.

We are looking for an established Health Care Assistant with a keen interest in wound care and dressings to join us and work within the nursing team to deliver preventative care interventions and management of long term conditions to all patients.

Job responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical care:

Workalongside the clinician(s) in the provision of patient care Undertakeand record the following tasks: Undertake routine dressings in accordance with practice guidelines Measurementof height and weight, helping patients undress Urinalysis Measure ofblood pressure, temperature and pulse Peak flowmeasurements Spirometry Recordingof ECGs Venepuncture DMARDbloods and annual Rheumatoid Arthritis reviews using the Frax tool and Qrisk Testing ofclinical specimens and recording results Blood sugarmeasurements Suture andclip removal in accordance with practice guidelines Recognisechanges in the patients observations that must be reported and acted upon. Enablepatients to access appropriate professionals in the practice team. Act as achaperone. Appreciatethe principles of Healthy Living. CompleteCardiovascular, NHS Health and New patient checks, Providerelevant health promotion literature for patients. Preparingand maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patientcare interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minoroperations Assistclinicians in the emergency management of patients. Vaccine/coldchain storage, monitoring and recording Monitoring adequate Stocks of vaccine and ensure goodstock rotation. Community, NursingHome and elderly visits in accordance with the practice guidelines. Give Fluvaccinations and B12 injections upon completion of accredited course. EarIrrigation following completion of accredited course. Diabeticfoot checks Doppler Emergencyfirst aid Care &programme

Management

Clearlypresent patients point of view to others. Ensurestock control items are ordered and provided in GP/Nurses & TreatmentRooms, emergency equipment. Maintainclinical equipment efficiently and ensure servicing is undertaken. Followinfection control standards. Contributenew ideas to improve patient care. Instructpatients in appropriate techniques or tasks. Tidyclinical areas in direct response to infection control and Health & Safetystandards.

Clinical Practice Leadership

Workeffectively in a team and where appropriate participate in clinical meetings Interactwith patients and colleagues in a professional manner.

Clinical Practice Development

Maintainset standards of organisation in clinical rooms. Takeappropriate action if standards are not being met. Recognisepotential areas of conflict, preventing where possible and reporting to seniormembers of staff if unable to cope. Storage ofvacs Collectclinical waste and ensure that it is appropriately stored until disposal. Have inplace programmes and systems to ensure appropriate Continual Professionaldevelopment is maintained in line with needs of the post.

Information Recording
