Job summary

We are a busy forward-thinking practice, providing high quality care, working to specific clinical guidelines and protocols for our registered community. Previous experience of working in a GP Practice is essential.

To provide assessment, treatment, screening, health education services and advice working in accordance with the NMC Code of conduct

Provide nursing treatments to Patients independently or in participation with other clinical colleagues working to agreed protocols and guidelines

Provide general and specific health screenings to the Practice Patients within agreed protocols and guidelines referring to other members of the clinical team as necessary

To manage Patients with chronic diseases; running specific clinic sessions and maintaining robust call and recall systems

Participate in national screening work such as cervical cytology and meet targets delivering the national immunisation and vaccination schedule

Wound management

Measuring blood pressure

Routine injections as prescribed

Cervical smears

Long Term Condition Management

ECGs

Vaccinations and immunisations

Travel advice

Assisting with IUCD insertion

Provide advice to Patients for general health care and minor ailments, with referral to another clinician as necessary

To participate in research within the Practice

To be responsible for the efficient running of the treatment room and equipment

To assist with the management of leg ulcers

Select, carry out and interpret results of specific tests

Ensure all statutory regulations ( Infection control, Health & Safety, COSHH, etc.) are implemented and adhered to

To maintain accurate, comprehensive records of all consultations and treatments in the Patients notes, both written and computerised

Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with Patient health care and registration with the Practice

Ensure collection of statistical information is required for regular and ad hoc reports

To have working knowledge of equipment used in the surgery

Ensure compliance with Patient confidentiality at all times in line with current legislation

Contribute to the development of new Patient services

Inform your line manager of any reported or suspected failings in the provision of care within the Practice

Experience

Essential

Effective time management skills Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting primary care and the NHS Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent team player but, with ability to work independently Ability to manage own time Ability to motivate and influence others Computer literate

Desirable

Desirable skills Basic IT skills (MS Office, Internet) Use of Ardens clinical templates Time Management skills to maintain the smooth running of own clinics and ensure all calls and recalls are completed in a timely manner

Qualifications

Essential

Registered General Nurse Member of the Midwifery Nursing Council with current 3 yearly revalidation Car owner / driver Flexible working to cover annual leave/sickness

Desirable

Non- Medical Independent Prescribing qualification Relevant diplomas in management of Long Term conditions Knowledge of vaccinations and Immunisations Nurse post-registration experience Experience of contributing to the improvement and / or quality of service as part of a multi-disciplinary team Experience of developing and implementing guidelines Experience of working as an experienced Practice nurse in GP practice Clinical knowledge for managing Chronic Disease and / or family planning Ability to develop and maintain communication with people about difficult matters and / or difficult situations Computer literacy Familiarity with GP clinical systems
