Job summary

The clinician will join a vibrant and established clinical team consisting of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Behaviour Support Nurse,Assistant Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, OccupationalTherapists, Dietician, Physiotherapist.

They will be part of thisspecialist multidisciplinary team delivering behaviour support and psychological therapy to both residential andday students at the college.

Behaviour support in BeechwoodCollege consists predominantly of a PositiveBehaviour Support (PBS) model and the post holder will continue our closelinks with the wider PBS community around Wales, having access to and the opportunityto engage with service and governmental levels of service provision andstrategy alongside the Consultant Clinical Psychologist.

The therapeutic provision atBeechwood College follows the Autism frameworks and guidelines provided by theWelsh Government and NICE. This includes the need for creative adaptions to therapeutic provision that make this anexciting opportunity for a Clinical/Educational Psychologist or PsychologicalPractitioner to develop their therapeutic skills.

We have implemented somenovel and well planned adaptions to traditional therapeutic strategies,including adaptions to CBT, ACT, Narrative Therapy, Compassion FocussedTherapy, and others. An evidence based and model adherent approach is taken toall of our psychological provisions.

Main duties of the job

We are constantly looking toimprove our therapeutic resources and regularly look to coproduce revisions of the materials with students.

Systemically supporting staff teams and engaging with carers and family members is also an important role with thisteam. We lean towards the theoretical ideas found within DDP and attachmentfocussed literature, including DDP and the House Model. Training staff in these trauma informed ways of working canreally help the development of relationally secure environments that then allowthe students to more easily deal with college life and learning. We need a clinician with an interest and skills in workingalongside and supporting MDT staff.

The post holder willhave the opportunity to work under the supervision of a Consultant ClinicalPsychologist to provide comprehensive assessment and intervention. They willalso have an opportunity to developtheir own supervision skills , as appropriate, with Assistant Psychologistsand/or Trainee placements

You will be part of a large clinical services department acrossour group with access to clinical and forensic psychologist and AHP colleagues. Research and networking interestsare supported and encouraged. We have good links with local clinical trainingcourses and academic centres: the postholder will be encouraged to supervisetrainee Clinical/Educational Psychologists or other trainee clinicians onplacement.

To supervise and train otherprofessionals and contribute to the training of trainee clinical psychologists

To utilise specialised researchskills for audit, policy and service development, and research.

Qualifications

Essential

Qualifications and Training Doctorate in Clinical/Educational Psychology OR Professional Registration in relevant health profession (Nursing, OT, SALT) plus further training in psychological therapy Advanced PBS training Post graduate training in CBT / DBT / ACT / CFT / other therapies adapted for individuals with Autism Mental Capacity Act Training Experience of teaching other staff Experience in Autism services Experience in Learning Disability services Working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team Attending reviews and case conferences Use of SPSS Personal Characteristics Calm under pressure Excellent verbal communicator Creative Empathic Excellent written skills and report writing High level of initiative Thorough Willing to try new things General Full Driving Licence
