The Cavendish Laboratory, Department of Physics, is seeking a Research Laboratory Coordinator to provide cryogenic expertise and support for research activities within the Cryostat Hall at the Ray Dolby Centre (RDC).

The Cavendish is expected to relocate to the RDC in late 2024 or early 2025, marking a new era for physics at Cambridge University. This state-of-the-art facility is being purpose-built for our world-leading research programmes.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Laboratory Coordinator to join a dynamic team as part of a shared laboratory technician resource supporting the Department of Physics, reporting to the RDC Laboratory Manager.

In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting multiple research groups engaged in cutting-edge research, assisting with experiments, and maintaining research equipment. You will also be involved in training junior researchers in the use of cryogenic materials. During the move to the RDC, you will be essential in assisting with the decommissioning and recommissioning of equipment.

The successful candidate will have knowledge or experience in specialised laboratory activities, including optical, electronic, computer-controlled, mechanical, high-pressure, cryogenic, and vacuum equipment.

Essential qualifications include experience in providing training to groups and individuals, practical experience in mechanical workshop work, and expertise in the use and application of cryogenics and gas laws. Excellent communication and organisational skills are also required to ensure high performance within a small team.
