Main duties of the job

As one of our Ward Sisters/Charge Nurses you will support the ServiceLead, lead a team and manage the ward on a regular basis. The role isresponsible for maintaining continuity of care to patients within the hospice,while at the same time providing leadership to staff and volunteers.

The successful post holder would work well with the Service Leadand Sisters to support the effective running of the ward, ensuring goodcommunication and teamwork, and that the necessary support and supervision isprovided for all team members.

As one of our Sisters/Charge Nurses you will be supported by theService Lead and Head of Clinical Services while playing a key role indelivering safe, quality patient-focused care to clients and drive forward thehighest standards of palliative care service provision. This post will appeal to an individual withthe ability to deliver in all aspects of clinical care and staffmanagement.

As a Sister/Charge Nurse you will be a clinical role model andwill need to have a willingness to develop the nursing team as well as workingtowards your professional growth. The successful post holder will conductdirect supervision and manage the daily service needs which includes planningand management of staff rotas.

Role Responsibilities:

Assist with induction programmes for newly appointed staff, providing support and guidance.

Work with others to ensure a clinical environment, conducive to learning.

To participate in teaching and training.

To attend all mandatory training in accordance with hospice policy.

Clinical Governance

To participate in the monitoring and evaluation of care and clinical services.

To work in adherence to the organisational policies and guideline of Bolton Hospice.

To maintain personal and professional development.

To ensure all untoward incidents, complaints and accidents are dealt with promptly and in accordance with hospice policy.

Communication

Attend and participate in organisational meetings to ensure awareness of developments within the area of practice and across the organisation.

Communicate with other service users to provide support and efficiency, both internally and externally.

Liaise with external agencies to plan discharges.

General Responsibilities:

Health and Safety

Prevent spread of infection. Comply with policies and procedures for correct disposal of waste, sharps and soiled linen.

Training

Managers are required to take responsibility for their own and their staffs development. All employees have a duty to attend mandatory training as required by the Hospice.

Safeguarding Vulnerable People (Children and Adults)

All employees have a responsibility to protect and safeguard vulnerable people (children and adults). They must be aware of child and adult protection procedures and who to contact within the Hospice for further advice. All employees are required to attend safeguarding awareness training and to undertake additional training appropriate to their role.
