Research Assistant in Molecular Neurometabolism

Grade F (£28,- £31, p.a. pro rata)

Fixed Term 12 months Full Time

About the Role

We are recruiting a motivated Research Assistant / associate to carry out laboratory based experimental work in the Dumbell research group on a project funded by the Academy of Medical Sciences: ZFHX3 in growth and metabolism.

The aim of the project is to investigate the molecular action of a transcription factor implicated in bodyweight regulation and metabolism, in cell lines and tissues.

The role will involve maintaining neuronal cell cultures, and standard molecular and cell biology techniques to investigate the effects of knock down and/or over expression of genes and their downstream effects. You will employ standard techniques such as Western Blotting, qRT-PCR, Immunohistochemistry, and Luciferase Reporter Assays. You will have the opportunity to be involved in work using advanced techniques such as spatial transcriptomics and tissue clearing for 3D imaging using our new state of the art light sheet microscope.

You will ideally be experienced in standard molecular biology techniques and in vitro experiments, with a strong attention to detail, and excellent communication and record keeping skills.

You will work within our small research team and within the wider bioscience research labs in the Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Centre (ISTeC) at Clifton Campus. For more information about the team and the work we do, see the website.

For more details about the role, please look at the role profile. We'll still consider applications even if you don't meet every single one of the requirements, so don't be put off if you don't match them perfectly.

Interviews: w/c 16th September
