Job overview

The Oxford Cancer Centre offers the perfect opportunity to work within a dynamic team dedicated to delivering holistic care for patients referred for radiotherapy. You will be a key member of this team, based mainly at Milton Keynes University Hospital, but coming to Oxford Cancer Centre at the Churchill Hospital at least day a week. The nature of the role means we are looking for a Therapeutic Radiographer with a broad range of clinical experience using advanced radiotherapy techniques who can work autonomously, prioritizing their time to ensure all aspects of the job role are met.

Oxford Cancer Centre will be opening a new radiotherapy satellite on the Milton Keynes Hospital site in autumn . Roughly % of patients from Milton Keynes who require radiotherapy will be treated at the new satellite with the remainder coming to the Oxford Cancer Centre. Initially the satellite will have a CT Simulator and Linac. A second bunker has been built to accommodate expansion of the service in the future.

The case mix will be determined on the acuity of care and additional support patients require and in some cases the type of treatment they need, for example SRS patients will travel to Oxford.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Therapeutic Radiographer to work with OUH colleagues alongside the friendly oncology team at Milton Keynes as an expert resource for radiotherapy specific patient information and support. You will additionally help patients access all holistic care, referring appropriately to additional specialist support and will carry out treatment reviews.

As well as ensuring that information and support is available for Oncology patients at Milton Keynes Hospital, you will be expected to promote links between Oxford Cancer Centre Radiotherapy Department and the external oncology clinics we hold at Horton General Hospital, Banbury, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury, Wycombe General Hospital, High Wycombe and Milton Keynes University Hospital, Milton Keynes.

We have Radiographers in the Late Phase Research team. There are currently Consultant Radiographers and several Radiographers working at Advanced Practice level with plans to increase the number of these roles. We have recently established a Radiographer led Late Effects Team. Most of these Radiographers have completed `M’ level Review training and are Independent Prescribers. Others have completed or are working towards `M’ level qualifications across all parts of the patient pathway.
