Peterborough, United Kingdom Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The post is based in the CAMEO Early Intervention in Psychosis Service in Peterborough. CAMEO is a multi-award-winning community mental health service for people aged who are experiencing a first-episode psychosis. The focus is on recognising and treating psychotic experiences early to provide better outcomes and an improved chance of recovery. CAMEO is a 3-year age inclusive (14-65) early intervention in psychosis service. CAMEO provides a whole raft of needs, including educational and vocational plans, as well as with housing, finances, and leisure activities. The psychological approaches include cognitive behaviour therapy, group and individual work, family work and brief family focus groups, and a range of interventions to help people to get back to college, work and develop social skills. It also offers assessment for and treatment to people who are at risk of developing psychosis. CAMEO accepts direct referrals from any source, including patients and relatives. CAMEO has strong links with the department of psychiatry at the University of Cambridge and is involved in world class research projects. CAMEO has influenced changes in policies and practice at national and international level.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be one of two consultant psychiatrists in the team and provide assessment and treatment for all patients with early psychosis in their area. They will work alongside a passionate and highly committed multidisciplinary early intervention in psychosis team, including psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, support workers and others, to cover a geographical patch around Peterborough. In addition to direct clinical care, the post holders are expected to be active in teaching and training - including medical students, staff members and psychiatry trainees.

Depending on the interests of the post holder there are excellent opportunities to be involved in management, service development, psychological and family interventions, and under/post-graduate teaching. The CAMEO North service is very popular and highly regarded by medical students and offers a regular elective option to the School of Clinical Medicine at the University of Cambridge. The post holder is expected to form close working relationships with team managers and to provide support and supervision to junior doctors in their teams. The post may be assigned Core Trainees, Specialty Trainees, Foundation Year Trainees or Specialty Doctors.
