Job summary
We are vibrant and energetic team with patient care at the forefront of everything we do. We have a brand new multi- million pound department with state of the art facilities including a dedicated Resus area, observation cubicles and treatment room where we see and treat a wide variety of children aged 0-16 with illness and injuries.
The post holder will work as part of the ward / department team under the supervision of registered nurses and will participate in the delivery of patient centred care, maintaining a compassionate and professional attitude at all times.
They will contribute to the department organisation and support registered nurses in the provision of a caring and safe environment and will work cooperatively as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting colleagues in work associated with patient care.
The post holder will demonstrate competence in generic and specialist skills as required within a time frame agreed with their manager following the completion of appropriate training and education. The Band 2 Health Care Assistant will function at a competency level in line with the requirements of the post and achieve and maintain both mandatory and statutory training requirements associated with the role.
Main duties of the job
Build partnerships and therapeutic relationships through safe, effective and non-discriminatory communication taking account of differences, capability and needs of individuals.
Maintain a high standard of personal behaviour and ensure effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, carers and relatives.
Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising there may be a need to utilise alternative methods of communication.
Use paper and electronic systems to retrieve and record patient information in line with Trust documentation standards and operational systems.
Apply the principles of information governance and patient confidentiality to all aspects of your role.
Answer the telephone / greet visitors promptly in a polite and professional manner and deal with enquiries as appropriate, pass on written and verbal information as required to colleagues and patients.
Participate in discussions about patient care and ward and departmental issues at hand over and ward / departmental meetings.
