Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver change and make a difference to transfusion care. Using your knowledge of transfusion, you will support the delivery of a series of complex education projects through the Transfusion 2024 programme.The Transfusion 2024 strategic plan outlined the key priorities for clinical and laboratory transfusion practice, NHSBT has commenced a programme of change to deliver specific objectives. This is a varied role requiring strong leadership and communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with our customers and the wider NHS. It is an opportunity to work across national frameworks, gaining strategic experience in a programme that will expand your knowledge and skills. You will need to be a highly energetic, articulate and a motivated individual with experience in leading change and making a difference. A commitment to innovation and continuous improvement will be essential as you will play an active role in the delivery of transfusion education projects. You will need to have the skills to influence transfusion practice at all levels and to embrace change.

Main duties of the job

The Transfusion 2024 (T2024) plan outlines the key priorities for clinical and laboratory transfusion practice to enable safe patient care across the NHS. In this role you will be responsible for:

Leading and delivering T2024 scientific education pilots and projects, including new ways of working and workforce development. Supporting the translation of the T2024 scientific education deliverables into a workplan with key performance indicators and ensuring, milestones are defined and delivered. Using expert knowledge to undertake review of educational and training needs and make recommendations for changes in service provision and/or clinical and scientific practice where appropriate Contributing to a range of service developments and policy development implementations in blood transfusion by representing T2024 on national groups. Leading, motivating, and influencing colleagues actively participating in change programmes and projects, encouraging team building at all levels. Working with internal and external stakeholders hospitals and Trusts, external companies and regional and national transfusion groups, to align needs and improve partnership working and to support the development and launching of collaborative scientific education projects Deputising for the Programme Director in times of absence. You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Masters degree or equivalent relevant qualification. OR equivalent experience. Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist, which must be retained in the role. Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).

Experience

Essential

Experience as a senior biomedical scientist in a laboratory relevant to the role. Knowledge and understanding of transfusion issues within hospitals and the challenges facing the transfusion environment. Experience of preparing and presenting clinical and scientific material. Experienced in managing projects and delivering change. Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
