WHAT TO EXPECT

Over the last decade, JLR has launched many innovative powertrains with ever greater JLR developed software content providing our customers with exclusive features and capabilities in their vehicles. With our Re-Imagine strategy, we are now working on the next generation of battery electric and hybrid vehicles, with JLR software components integrated into all the key powertrain commodities.

Functional Safety has always been a core part of our product delivery. With JLR taking greater ownership of the propulsion software content we are strengthening our management team with this Senior Technical Specialist for Propulsion Functional Safety.

As a senior member of the technical specialist community, you will be a strategic cross functional capability for the company. You will develop the company strategy for processes, components and systems and you will be a prime custodian of our key technology for current and future products. You will have the opportunity to teach, mentor and present at global conferences, but most importantly, you will oversee all the Functional Safety work being conducted across the whole Powertrain Department, being a champion for our safety culture.

Working with the Chapter Heads you will act to strengthen the necessary organisational structures building on industry best practice to ensure coverage and competence across Propulsion, whilst building synergies across JLR’s Functional Safety, Cyber Security and SoTIF disciplines. In conjunction with your peers you will shape, harmonise and deploy FuSa methods and processes ensuring that escalation and governance are embedded within the business.

You will have support of the Powertrain Functional Safety Technical Specialists who cover different hazards (High Voltage, Motion) or a part of the ISO26262 standard (Part 3,4,5,6). Dependent on your career aspiration, there is the opportunity of line management responsibility for these individuals.

On a day to day basis you will work closely with the Functional Safety Chapter Leads and Functional Safety product delivery squads, including providing technical leadership into the definition of future propulsion architectures and own our Functional Safety technical roadmap.

As a leader you’ll have the opportunity to work cross functionally and collaboratively to develop and deploy new strategic thinking in this critical area influencing senior leadership to develop and deploy corporate systems that ensure that these responsibilities are correctly apportioned within the business.

As part of the senior management team, you will work to support and be supported by your peers as we bring our products safely to market.

THE ROLE

Key Responsibilities

Delivery of capable, efficient, standardised and automated Functional Safety processes Ownership of Functional Safety tool and technology improvement projects Development of capable, robust and documented methods across the safety attribute and propulsion system types Technical authority for Functional Safety within Powertrain Hazard and Technical Safety Concept alignment with Chassis and ADAS systems Collaborative development and deployment of corporate Functional Safety Management System to move from local to corporate processes, with clear definitions of ownership and responsibility Lead strategy development for our powertrain functional safety capabilities, together with your team of Technical Specialists Optionally: Line management of our Powertrain Functional Safety Technical Specialist, with a focus on servant leadership and personal development across the team Support of future vehicle architecture and technology development, ensuring that Functional Safety is considered from the start Skills development – collaborating to ensure that our talent pipeline meets current and future needs for Functional Safety Leadership and team work are vital for the role. You will have the ability to work seamlessly across organisational boundaries, influencing key stakeholder across the business Custodian of body of knowledge created for propulsion software development

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Proven track record of expertise in automotive functional safety Functional Safety management and leadership experience Expert knowledge of ISO26262 and the rationales and application of the standard to passenger vehicles Knowledge of other automotive domain specific safety related standards Knowledge of electrified and conventional propulsion systems Minimum of a Bachelor degree in a technological engineering or computer science Minimum or equivalent of 10 years related experience in automotive or related industry functional safety Proven leadership skills aligned to JLR’s Creator’s Code Strong technical, communication and analytical abilities Ability to produce timely, logical and concise work products Ability to handle concurrent programs Ability to work effectively independently, in a team or collaborative environment Experience working within a quality managed environment ( A-SPICE)

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Master of Science degree in a technological engineering or computer science Functional Safety experience or knowledge from non-automotive industries Safety Manager experience with functional safety sign off authority Competent with project management tools (waterfall and agile – JIRA, Confluence or similar) Knowledge and experience of propulsion technologies
