Job summary
Working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, thepost holder will ensure nursing services are delivered effectively to theentitled patient population. The practice nurse will be responsible for anumber of clinical areas such as infection prevention and control, healthpromotion, chronic disease management, health prevention, well women and wellman clinics, as well as supporting the practice management team in thereviewing and delivery of clinical policy and procedure.
Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the practicenurse.
Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient careas directed by senior nursing staff and GPs Cytology Wound care / ulcer care/Doppler Removal of Sutures New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis Travel Clinic ECGs Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry Venepuncture Hypertension Management Ear syringing Routine immunizations/Childhood immunisations Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who arebeing examined by another clinician Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Interest in Diabetes or Coronary Heart Disease andContraception. Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to seniornurses or GPs as appropriate

Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses andGPs Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating itemsas required Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined byanother clinician. Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses andtreatment rooms Maintain stock of waiting room leaflets as instructed bypartners and Practice Manager Ordering of Health Promotion Literature Ordering of stock from the District Hospital Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels Participation in administrative systems in the Practice At all times there will be a need to maintain accuraterecords A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems orerrors within the range of assigned tasks DOAC Monitoring Books Recalls & Searches Attend and participate in any Practice meetings whenrequired. Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post whichcould include knowledge and procedures Person Specification

- Long term conditions (Diabetes, Asthma, COPD)
Experience
Essential
- Diabetes - COPD/Asthma - Smears - Spirometry - Experience in Primary Care
Desirable
