Main duties of the job

Working under the directionof the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the postholder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by theclinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the Phlebotomist will beexpected to support the nursing team on an as required basis

About us

Churchmere Medical Group is a forward thinking GP practice in a semi-rural location.

You will be part of a large team made up of 7 GP Partners, 1 Managing Partner, 9 Salaried GP's, 3 Healthcare Assistants, 2 GP Assistants, 11 Practice Nurses and 1 Mental Health Practitioner.

Our non-clinical team is made up of our Management Team, Dispensary, Administration/Secretarial Team, Patient Services Advisors, Performance Team and Social Prescribing Team.

We also have a Medicines Management Team consisting of our Practice Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Prescriptions Administrators and Medicines Management Administrators.

PrimaryKey Responsibilities

Obtainingpatient consent for the collection of a blood sample

Performingvenepuncture in accordance with practice protocols

Thecorrect labelling, packaging and storing of samples

Ensuringsamples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner

Maintainingaccurate patient records on the EMIS system

Carryout baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature,pulse rate, height, weight, BMI and record findings accurately

Urinalysis

Maintainingeffective liaison with Churchmere Medical Group staff

Workingcollaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary forpatient related matters

SecondaryResponsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, thePhlebotomist may be requested to

Participatein practice audit as directed by a member of the practice management team

Participatein local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

Supportand participate in shared learning within the practice

Completeopening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota

Qualifications

Essential

Relevant qualification in venepuncture Good Standard of education

Desirable

Evidence of a commitment to continuing professional development

Skills and Abilities

Essential

Excellent communication skills (written and oral) Effective time management (planning and organising) Ability to work as a team member and autonomously Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure Competent in the use of Office and Outlook Ability to plan, communicate and implement

Experience of EMIS / Docman practice IT systems Demonstrates own reflective practice Confidence to participate in discussions within a multi-disciplinary team
