Job summary

We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist who is passionate about working with people with learning disabilities to join the East Suffolk Learning Disability and Autism team. We are committed to providing high quality services to adults with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health difficulties in East Suffolk.

Our Community LD&A services were rated 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission , in all domains in 2020, and our Inpatient LD&A service was rated Good in all domains in 2022.

Our service continues to develop in line with transforming care and therefore there are a number of exciting opportunities to be involved with including service development projects and shaping the future of the services we provide to our service users.

We have an experienced psychology team, with excellent support systems and supervision structures in place. Research and CPD opportunities are actively encouraged and supported.

We would welcome applications from newly qualified Psychologists or those who are soon to qualify on a preceptorship arrangement.

Main duties of the job

You will be working in the multi-disciplinary community LD and Autism team, an experienced, psychologically-minded, friendly team, enthusiastic for your input. Service users have varied presenting issues and you will use a range of approaches depending on need through:

Direct interventions or indirect approaches using a range of psychological models

Supporting multi-agency colleagues in their psychological work and building psychological mindedness through joint work, consultation, supervision and reflective practice

Working through groups, systems and the organisation

Specialist assessments and formulation

Contributing to training and service developments

Research and service evaluations

Psychologists in the team have links with research projects at the Tizard centre, the leading UK academic group working in learning disability who have an international reputation for high quality research in this area.

We have strong links with the University of East Anglia and regularly provide supervision for clinical placements. Research interests are encouraged and supported, as is CPD.

This is a full-time post. However please speak to us if you would be interested in working part time or flexible working.

Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Qualifications

Essential

Post-graduate degree (or its equivalent if trained prior to 1996) in clinical psychology, accredited by BPS

Desirable

Evidence of CPD in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

Experience

Essential

Experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist (Band 7) and able to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice to enable the post holder to clinically supervise trainee clinical psychologist

Skills

Able to effectively communicate technical and clinically sensitive information to service users, families, carers and other professionals, within and outside NHS

Knowledge

Doctor level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis
