Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with an interest in COPD

Job summary
We are seeking a dynamic Respiratory consultantto fill this replacement post and join the Leeds Integrated COPD specialistservices at St Jamess University Hospital. The appointees will become keymembers of a dedicated and highly experienced multidisciplinary team. In addition to COPD, other specialistinterests can be considered and maybe be able to be accommodated.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust makes up one of the largest teaching hospitals inEurope housing over 2,000beds and providing a range of general, acute and elective services, togetherwith a significant number of regional and supra-regional specialties. The department of Respiratory Medicine hasundergone significant modernisation over recent years and remains a centre forclinical and educational excellence. Inpatient services are provided in GledhowWing at St Jamess Hospital. This includes three Respiratory wards, an NIV /Weaning unit, a dedicated CF ward, a procedures room, Sleep services and aNurse-led day unit. There are cross city outpatient facilities including adedicated chest clinic at Leeds General Infirmary. The unit has a strongcommitment to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research.
Main duties of the job
The job is a full-time post comprising of 10 PAs with supervision of the junior doctors and specialist nurses. There will also be an on-call commitment to cover the Respiratory medicine medical rota on a 1:12 basis, contribute to the Acute Medicine rota 1:17 and contribute to work flexibly to support General Internal Medicine.
Theappointee must hold the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of theUnited Kingdom, or equivalent, and have completed higher specialist training inRespiratory Medicine.
Applicantsmust be on the Specialist Register or within sixmonths of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in atraining programme within the UK. Inaccordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories ofdoctors must be on the Specialist Register.

TheLeeds COPD Integrated Service
The Leeds Integrated COPD Service is a Consultant ledService in collaboration between Respiratory Medicine at Leeds TeachingHospitals and the Community Respiratory Team at Leeds Community Health Trust.Our aim is to provide accessible, excellent, COPD specialist care across Leedsincluding quality assured diagnosis & proactive disease management.
The service delivers a wide range of activitiesincluding delivering COPD care bundle, maintaining best practice standards inacute management of COPD through participation in the National COPD Audit,COPD, Palliative and emphysema MDTs, Home Oxygen Service, Respiratory Home Wardin the Community, Alpha 1 - antitrypsin deficiency, Home NIV, PulmonaryRehabilitation & Specialist COPD outpatient Clinics.
2. OBJECTIVESOF THE POST
The successful candidate would join the other 2consultants in the team. They are expected to work closely with the currentmultidisciplinary team to sustain current capacity of the Leeds Integrated COPDservices with a view to expand in the near future, ensure the smooth flow fromdiagnosis to treatment & follow up, including developing innovative ways ofworking to sustain increasing patient load, contribute to the Respiratory &Acute Medicine on call rota.

Contribute to the Respiratory & Acute Medicine oncall rota
Perform bronchoscopies & pleural procedures
To take an active role in undergraduate and postgraduateteaching
Active participation in research within the department.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
MB BS or equivalent qualification. MRCP or equivalent qualification. Certificate of completion of Specialist training in Respiratory and General Medicine or CESR or equivalent. Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice. YOU MUST STATE YOUR GMC NUMBER IN YOUR APPLICATION IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE ROLE. Eligibility to work in the UK. Is up to date and fit to practise safely.

Relevant higher degree.
Training, Research, Teaching & Audit
Essential
Should have completed a recognised training programme in Respiratory Medicine and General (Internal) Medicine. Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research. Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors. Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
Desirable
Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff. Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
