Contract: Apprentice Fixed Term Contract (2 years)

Role specifics: Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship qualification. GCSE’s (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade C/grade 4 or above (or be expected to obtain these by September 2024) or must commit to achieving within the duration of the apprenticeship.

Please be aware that to be eligible for apprenticeship funding you must have a valid and eligible residency status along with the right to work in the UK; to qualify you have to have been a resident in the UK for at least the last 3 years and had permission granted by the UK government to live in the UK and this cannot have been for educational purposes only.

It is a strategic priority for Bolton Council to tackle high levels of unemployment amongst young people in the Bolton borough therefore priority will be given to applications from BL postcodes.

The Role:

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic apprentice who is ready to embark on their initial working journey with Bolton Council. Our apprenticeship posts are designed to support and help you discover and enhance your unique skills and talents. Through hands on experience and personalised mentorship, you will gain the confidence and knowledge to excel in your chosen career path with us.

Don’t worry about experience; we are recruiting on passion and drive. This is an entry-level role that is ideal for a recent school or college leaver aiming to kickstart their career within Bolton Council.

Whilst working towards the successful completion of your apprenticeship programme, you will learn on the job, assisting and supporting the Virtual School who oversee the education of Bolton’s looked after and previously looked after children. The service works in partnership with education services, social care, schools, health and key stakeholders, offering information, advice, guidance and to support children from early years to adulthood.


As an apprentice early years practitioner, you will support children’s transition into primary school, working alongside experienced colleagues you will observe and assess children’s development and behaviour, support the Early Years lead to write and upload termly Personal Education Plan (PEP) documents and assist in the planning, preparation and delivery of training sessions.

About You

We are searching for an individual who is highly motivated with a desire to learn and develop in this apprenticeship role. The ideal candidate should be able to work effectively both within a team and independently. You will have good time management skills along with excellent communication abilities, especially when interacting with young children. You will have good computer literacy experience and familiarity with the use of Microsoft Office. If you are enthusiastic and ready for the opportunity to make a difference, you might be just what we are looking for


Applicants must hold GCSE’s (or equivalent) in maths and English at grade C/grade 4 or above (or be expected to obtain these by September 2024) or must commit to achieving within the duration of the apprenticeship.

This is a developmental role, as part of this opportunity, you will work towards a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Apprenticeship qualification and as such applicants must not already hold an Early Years/Child Care qualification or similar at level 2 or above.
