Job summary

JOB PURPOSE

To work as a member of small team of midwives and midwifery support workers providing full continuity of carer pathway for women and their families who are booked for a homebirth.

This post is for a Band 6 midwife preferable with 2 years' experience to work in community and homebirth intrapartum setting to provide team continuity for homebirth care by an on-call service.

PROFESSIONAL

To observe the NMC Code of Conduct. To work within the policies and protocols of Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust and enable all members of the midwifery team to carry out care within these guidelines. To maintain effective communication and working relationships within the team and between the team and other Health Care Professionals. To be responsible for the maintenance and development of her own clinical skills and maintain PREP requirements. Including attendance at Trust mandatory training.

Main duties of the job

CLINICAL:

To possess the midwifery skills to undertake midwifery care for a caseload of women during all stages of their pregnancy, intrapartum and postnatal period and to be able to facilitate and provide continuity of carer to women on a low risk care pathway as a small team. To actively promote Homebirth/domino/Birth Centre Care for women and support women through their place of birth choice. To provide total care to women in liaison with other team members and the multi-disciplinary team to ensure safe high standard of care for mothers and their babies To be responsible for the maintenance and development of her/his own clinical skills. To support the development of midwifery practice and new roles within the service. To assume responsibility for the safe custody and administration of drugs in accordance with the Trust Policies and Statutory Rules and Regulations.

PEOPLE MANAGEMENT

To assist the other team members in the co-ordination of the clinical/non-clinical activities of the team. To assist with orientation programmes which familiarise new members of staff to the team. To carry out regular Staff Appraisals of midwifery assistants and clerical staff under the direction of the Team Manager, and following appropriate training.
