Key Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside teachers to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and Education Healthcare Plans (EHCP's)

  • Use de-escalation techniques and other strategies to manage challenging behaviors
  • Provide emotional and social support, helping pupils navigate their challenges and build life skills

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has previous experience working with children with SEMH needs or within SEND settings
  • Holds a Team Teach level 2 certification (or is willing to obtain it through GSL)
  • Is patient, resilient, and calm under pressure
  • Has a genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people and empowering them to succeed
  • Is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of children and young adults

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting for at least 6 months. Placements through University or volunteering experiences will be accepted.
  • Understanding of SEMH-related challenges and appropriate strategies for intervention and support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Be able to work collaboratively with staff members and outside agencies, such as counsellors and mental health professionals.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
