THE TEAM

Addleshaw Goddard's Financial Regulation Team is one of largest in the UK, ranked Tier 1 in Chambers and Partners. The team consist of a mix of lawyers and compliance professionals split over Leeds, London, and Scotland. The team is headed up by Rosanna Bryant and 9 other Partners with around 18 other fee earners. The Financial Regulation team is independently recognised as first rate and having "client focus and a pragmatic approach in complicated situations".

This role sits within our regulated lending and banking (RLB) offering of the team. Our clients span a variety of market sectors, and our work covers the full range of products, from consumer credit and mortgages to current accounts, savings, and retail investments. We also have a growing payments practice covering pre-paid products and payment technologies, merchant acquiring and other payment services.

Our clients include leading banks, building societies, credit card providers, debt collectors, debt purchasers, debt management companies, brokers, payday loan providers, home credit lenders and point of sale finance providers. We also advise smaller niche lenders of financial services providers, such as specialist private banks.

We provide regular publications to our clients that allow them to stay up-to-date on developments in the consumer finance industry. AG is a member of, and active participant in, trade associations, and we also organise regular meetings of the Consumer Credit Forum which brings together specialists from industry and private practice.

What to expect in this role

You will handle your own matters and assist the Partners and work with other Managing Associates and Associates on more complex matters, delivering high quality work to clients as well as helping to win new work. You can expect to have the opportunity to play a significant role in working for clients that are key to the Division and to the firm. As part of this you may have the opportunity to undertake client secondments to assist our clients and to build your skills and expertise further.

We have a strong reputation for providing Managing Associates with early levels of responsibility within a supportive and stretching environment. The role is ideal for a committed lawyer who is looking to advance their career and create a name for themselves. Whatever your level, you'll be expected to play a full role in the Team, including involvement in business development and regular client contact. The team will take a genuine interest and support you with your development therefore offering excellent career prospects.

Draft documentation for new products, including terms and conditions, regulated consumer credit agreements, KFIs and offer documents; Assist in the formulation of new marketing strategies and materials; Provide sign-off on marketing materials, including direct mail, TV advertising, websites and internet promotions. We can handle single items or regular larger volumes of material using a more automated process; Help clients assess the impact of new or proposed legislation and informing their implementation or lobbying strategies; Conduct compliance audits of businesses or product documentation; Provide guidance to interpret legal requirements, such as the approach to early settlement and APR legislation; Assisting with licensing applications or with enforcement action taken by the Office of Fair Trading under licensing powers or other consumer protection legislation

your areas of knowledge and expertise

You will have at least 5 years' experience in a financial regulation team, post qualification working in regulated lending and banking. Most importantly, you should have a real and genuine interest in this area and be keen to grow that knowledge in a proactive way. You should be adept at in building strong client relationships, but also like working in a team. Our ideal candidate should have a keen intellect and a commercial mindset. You will be able to demonstrate that you are able to provide pragmatic and tailored advice in a way that supports internal and external clients alike. The ability to actively support complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines as needed.
