Job summary

We are pleased to be offering an exciting opportunity for a Biomedical Scientist to join our Immunology team based at the Queens Medical Centre Campus.

Ideally bringing with you some routine Immunology experience and knowledge you must be a highly motivated HCPC state registered BMS. You must have a minimum of 12 months UK lab experience, this can be within a training role. Please do not apply if you do not have this experience.

The role will include running a variety of technical assays to release results for timely patient care. We are looking for someone who is a good communicator, well organised, enthusiastic and self- motivated and someone who works well in a team.

Our Immunology department provides a unique opportunity to experience a very large repertoire of Immunology assays with a variety of techniques using some of the latest equipment. This includes Navios and Aquios flow cytometers, DS2 ELISA processors, 2 Bioflash chemiluminescent instruments, 2 Unicap 250s, Quantalyser 3000 IIF processor and Euroblotone blot processor.

The department is UKAS (ISO15189:22) accredited for a large repertoire of Immunology tests and CPD is actively encouraged and supported. There is also the possibility to study for the IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Immunology as the department is IBMS accredited for specialist training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a member of the departmental team and assist in the delivery of a quality driven, cost effective, patient focused service consistent with the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust's objectives. To provide that service in a manner commensurate with the profession.

The post holders' main role is to carry out the examination of pathological samples using various technologies and to report or present the results as appropriate

Job responsibilities

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of senior Biomedical Scientist staff to:

Carry out all laboratory analyses associated with the post, including reporting results, maintaining appropriate records and documentation.

Participate in the departments rosters as required.

Undertake quality control procedures, examine quality control results to identify poor performance and instigate appropriate action.

Participate in the operation and routine maintenance of equipment.

Ensure that personal work activity is managed to make effective use of time and maintain an adequate supply of laboratory consumables, reagents and equipment.

Ensure the competent and efficient use of computerised data management systems.

Assist in the supervision, training and teaching of staff and participate in the departments training plan.

Maintain ongoing Professional Portfolio and update Professional Development Plan. Undertake courses and other activities to satisfy HPC Continuing Professional Development requirements.

Assist with the development of new methods and the implementation of new technology.

Maintain standards of laboratory policies and procedures to ensure that the department meets National External Quality Assurance and Accreditation standards.

Assist with the production, maintenance and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures.

Ensure that safe working practices are followed in accordance with departmental Safety Policy.

Be aware of and adhere to Trusts policies, including those relating to discipline, grievance, sickness, absence and health and safety.

Ensure compliance with all statutory and legislative requirements including patient confidentiality and the Data Protection Act.

Work flexibly and undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as required.

Participate in and contribute to own Personal Development Review.
